My F32 435xi has been "sleeping" in my garage since early November, waiting patiently (as opposed to its owner) for the snow to melt in a few months.

Taking a break from work, I decided to play around a bit with the BMW Remote app. This past summer, the app worked perfectly 90% of the time (there were instances were I would have to send a command twice). Love the ability to condition the car on hot days.

Anyway, for some reason I can't get any of the functions to work now. Sending the command to sound the horn via the app seems to reach the server (according to the progress messages), but it never reaches the car. It eventually times out and says there was an error "connecting to vehicle".

The car hasn't been started since mid-November and has been in a garage (with the door closed) since then (in the summer these functions worked fine, even when the car is in the garage), so could that have something to do with it? I'm wondering if it's simply 'off the radar'.

Any insights appreciated!

Your car must have cell reception. Go to where you car is parked and see if you have reception on you cell phone.

I re-read you last para, most likely your car is in sleep mode to preserve the batt.

Thanks - I'm thinking the same thing. I tried to wake it up by unlocking/locking the doors, but didn't work even after that. Maybe that doesn't fully wake it up.

Suppose it may have to wait until spring when I coax it out of hibernation.

Download the BMW Connected App, the old Remote App will be completely gone soon... Don't know if that will make a difference or not, just a suggestion.

Do you have a battery tender connected to your car? If not, your car is in battery savings mode which disables non-essential electronic systems. I've noticed comfort access is one of the things that stop working when it's in this mode. I'm pretty sure your location services will also be disabled in this mode.

It's happened to me a few times when I was tweaking the voltage cutoff for my dash cam in parking mode. Also happened when it was super cold this past winter. In all cases, when I started the vehicle, I got the battery discharged while stopped message.

Bottom line - charge your battery

Excellent point about the battery charger. It has, in fact, been connected to one (a Deltran) since I stopped driving it in November.

The Connected app is not the same here in Canada, unfortunately, at least as far as I can tell, so the functionality to sound the horn, etc. is not there.

In Canada the Connected App is only semi-functional and hasn't been updated in the App store for years (my version is 2.5.2). We're stuck with the Remote App.

Having said that, the remote app has been working well for me through 4 cars since my 335 E90. It shows me on the map where the car is, allows me to send destinations to the Nav and allows me to precondition the interior on hot days. Not sure what else I would want out of it.

Connected App does not work for Canada at the moment. However, it will be available before the end of the year.

How do u get the remote app? I only see a US bmw remote app in the App Store

What app are you guys talking about specifically? I see the BMW Connected App but it doesn't look like the most updated version in the Canadian Apple App Store.

When I got my car they never even mentioned an app to me :S (mines a 2018)....

It's the BMW Remote App. Works for Canadian vehicles if you have ConnectedDrive.

I was told my Connected Drive trial is only for the 1st year of my lease...do you guys usually renew this and pay for it monthly?

I haven't had to renew mine yet as my car came with a 3-year term but I believe if you want to renew, it's for a 3-year term, not month-to-month... canadian33 can correct me if I'm wrong on this.

I just renewed mine. There was an option for either one year or three years; No monthly option. Three years cost $508.50 including HST, so it’s pretty expensive.

OP here. Woke the car up from it's winter slumber today. App is functioning normally now that the satellite has seen it again.
