So frustrated! NEEEED TO MODDD!
I bought the F30 with the intention of not modding the car and risking having issues with warranty. That lasted 3 days, i ordered some wheels and springs for the car. I figured if the struts blow, no biggie.
I've had loads of tunable cars (S4, e55, Evo, Sti, Turbo s2k, z06, cobra) and everyone has been modded. As most of you know when you start modding cars the warranty is out the window and its a gamble overtime you visit the dealer. I'd like to have some peace of mind with this car and leave it as stock as possible. Besides a catback, is there anything I can do that that dealership will not be aware of or care? I've love to tune it if possible. I've owned numerous turbo cars and I usually have them tuned before the break in completed. Getting ready to pull my hair out or just say F-it and go nuts. |

You could have the dealer install the MPPK (M performance power kit) tune and exhaust, but I think that's really the only allowed modification as far as power goes.
Burger Motorsports seems to be the popular tuning company for these cars, their stage 1 is plug-and-play and is comparable to the MPPK tune for much cheaper. The JB4 stage 2 is plug-and-play aside from 2 quick connects into your harness, which isn't difficult to do and is pretty easily removable. Technically there would be evidence of the tune if they were to look for those holes in the wires, though. I went with an intake, JB4, and catless downpipe, but I'd definitely have to remove everything and any evidence of it if I were to have an engine-related warranty issue. The JB4 on map 1 with only the intake was a nice power gain, but with the downpipe and map 2 it's really a new animal altogether.

@s2k750 , from your car list, I would say F-it and mod on.

Can the dealer see the JB4? I'm very tempted, but I've never had the peace of mind before. If something happens, not my problem. Loaner for a few days and I'm good to go!
How does the JB4 function? Does it override the factory tuning or does it trick the car into thinking its running less load than it actually is and compensates with extra boost, fuel and timing? |

You're going to do it anyway, why do you need our blessing?
Just mod it and have fun with it. You know by now that having a fast car is pay to play, you're not a rookie. Just do it. JB4 rocks Btw, I had my dealer install it. Burger does a great job of testing his products and putting good failsafes in place. It hooks in line to some of the components in your wiring harness. It essentially tricks the ECU in to advancing timing/fueling/boost, etc. Talk to some of the techs and service people at your dealership, feel them out, they might be cool with it, especially the younger guys in their 20's and 30's who work there. I guarantee most of them have a JB4 or tune of some kind in their cars. Good luck |

Same guy who laughed at me for still having runflats. (He's a very good friend). Non-RFT this spring, JB Stage 1 or Dinantronic to follow.

It's best mod that you can do for the car for the $$$. I don't know how bad the potholes are in Canada but keeping your runflats on is not the worst idea. |

I feel you. Kinda on the fence about modding the F32 now that my E46 is sold.

But most of the time, they will just keep one eye close since they still need to make some money from the corporate. Unless they can proof that the damage was caused by the mod, by law, they can't void the warranty but scares you with a bunch of BS. I mod my F10 and my F15. Don't even bother to remove my JB4 for services.

I'm going to wait until the first oil change for the tune. i'll talk to the dealer guys and see what they say. Last night I installed H&R sports on the car. The install was 10x easier than i thought it would be. Took me less than 3 hours with air tools.
The only thing i was uncertain of is proper jacking points. I dropped the protective panel under the car to see where the chassis is for jacking so i can put the jack stands on the factory jack points. Does anyone have a diagram of the safest places to jack up the front? For the rear i used the diff but its so far forward that it took forever to jack it up, 1/4 at a time. |
