How many here purchase miles throughout their lease?

Hey all, I am 8 months into a 30 month/50,000 mile lease with 15,400 miles on the ODO. my mom lives in another city and recently fell ill. Is there anyone here who uses the extra mileage calculator on BMWUSA and purchases extra miles as they go?

You can purchase mileage up to 4 months till the end of your lease.

In your case that means you have up until your 24th month to decide how many more miles you need to purchase.

Absolutely no reason to purchase them now. If you don't use them, you don't get the money back. Plus if a year from now you move and start putting fewer miles on the car, it may balance back out.

Either way, better to wait until the last possible date, then calculate how far you've gone over and how much you project you'll be at the end of the lease and buy the miles then.

Are the miles any more expensive if you by them later as a opposed to upfront? I'm trying to decide between 12 or 15k/yr and would go with 12 for now if I knew I could buy then for just as much and not get penalized buying late.

Only by a penny a mile, .16 instead of .15 up front, as long as you do it before you're inside of those last 4 months, at that point, it's .20.

Excellent! That's much better than I was thinking. And a lot easier to understand. Thanks!
