Remove F30 Speed Governor?
Can you have BMW take out the Governor of your car?
I called the dealership today and he says that their is no option to do so on their computer. The guy believes that when you buy the sport package or sport line, the governor will already be taken off. Is this true? |

No. Generally non-sport package cars have a 130mph governor and sport package and M cars are governed to 155mph. Any aftermarket tune will typically have the option to delete the governor though. Are you just curious, or is there something I need to know about Florida?

I was just curious because I heard that you can install a chip to take away the governor and that it will increase the hp in your car

You can, but those chips are aftermarket. There is a BMW Performance Power Kit for the N55 in the E8x and E9x, but I haven't seen any word of their availability for the F30 yet. It adds 20hp and 17-35 lb/ft of torque, but doesn't change the speed limiter if you already have the Sports Package. Aftermarket tunes for the N55 offer a good bit more power but come with the warranty risk of being an aftermarket tune. Dinan offers dealer installed and Dinan warrantied tunes, and will probably be quick to offer an F30 tune for both the N55 and N20.

I just got a brand new f30 335i xdrive sedan with the sport package. Supposedly the governor is set at 155 with the sport package but mine stopped abruptly at 130. I even have the tires capable of going well over that speed. Whats the deal?

Forgot to add, I believe a DINAN download stage 1 will increase it, stage 2 will remove it.

seriously, can the awd not handle those speeds? Btw this is my everyday driver, we get lots of snow up north here. I mean my first option is going to be to ask the dealer to increase it, if they say no i guess il go dinan... 130 is damn slow for this car btw

I had my e90 328i SPort bone stock 6 speed manual well over 145mph. The sport is where the speedo is increased from 130mph.

Xdrive models in sport and M sport have the same 155mph limiter as non-xdrive sport/m sport, but only if you get the summer performance tires. If you opt for all seasons, the limiter is reduced to 125 (130? not sure which). Limited because of lower speed rating of all-seasons, I guess.

Yeah thats either a typo or something else. Post up the link Im curious. I know for a fact on my e90 invoice it stated that it had a higher limiter and performance tires because it was a sport. I hit 145 in that car and it was stock. I know my girlfriends 328 xi is limited however. Its a non sport model.

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...an-test-review
I cant find it on BMWNA web site, so I searched elswhere. Not that car and driver is the most credible or best source, but look at the specifications review and it clearly states on the 335i sportline manufacurer claim the car is limited electronically to 155mph. Edit: I also found this http://www.autoevolution.com/engine/...2012-335i.html Basically you need the opt for ZPT item 840 when building the car. It gives you the higher speed limiter. THis is also standard for sport and M sport models. Its all I got.

What he was saying in a earlier post is that all f30 cars were limited to 130mph, and simply this is not accurate. Sport line and m sport cars come with ZTP option 840 standard, this increases the speed limiter. The regular luxury lines and 328i you have to select ZTP and opt for the summer tires to get the 155mph speed limit.

xDrive isn't the problem so long as you have performance tires, but you have to opt for them as all-seasons are the standard and in that case you will be limited to 130.

Seriously? Good luck being able to actually drive that fast in CT. You'll never even achieve that sort of speed on track. Better not answer the phone when you see "Darwin" on the caller ID.
