Red face Does the Auto Vent Feature work well?

I read in the Owner's Manual (Yes I downloaded the Owner's Manual Before I have received the Vehicle) that there is an Auto Venting Feature that can be set on a Timer or Temperature to Vent the Car of Hot Air when Parked in the Sun Too long.

Has anyone tried this feature?

I've used it, but it would be better if the schedule would repeat. It needs to be activated everyday. Also, it would be better if you could schedule how long it will be on for (30 mins seems a little long).

Basically, I use it if I know its going to be very hot and I'll set it for 15 mins before I think I'm going to leave work... Takes some of the heat out.

Thanks for the reply! Curious what actually occurs during this process, do the windows roll down slightly? Sunroof? or does the A/C fan come on?

It seems like a pretty neat feature!

Fan circulates outside air through cabin.
AC doesn't come on - that would drain the battery to much.

When it's ~100+ deg outside, car gets even hotter with windows up so this equalizes things from what would be 120-130. I set mine for ~15 min before I usually leave so even if I am late it does do some good. I use a sunshade and normally open the sunroof to help vent as well if I am pretty sure there won't be a thunderstorm. This in combo with the ventilation does a decent job.

I have setup a memory button to take be to the screen to activate my preset timer, so all I have to do is hit the preset and push in the iDrive to activate the default timer.

I've used it a couple times. The problem for me is I don't generally know when I'm getting back to the car, so setting it up isn't worth the effort. If it's controllable through the remote app that would be more useful (I don't have the remote app feature).

I just use my remote to roll all the windows down while I'm walking up to the car. I kinda figure that'll work as well if not better than setting up the vent.

I love the feature.... when I remember to set it. Which I forget to do about 50% of the time.

Didn't even know this feature existed but the roll down is a great idea. I have to try it... if I remember.

Thanks pcbrew! Setting a memory button sounds like the ticket.

I use it frequently. It helps a bit for sure. It is also available via the MyBMW app so if I forget to set it I can do it remotely as well.

Did anybody ever find out why this feature (activate vent via iPhone app) is not available in the US? Which regulation/law does it contravene?

Forget the app, I can't even do it from the climate setting in iDrive as it's blacked out.

I too use this feature daily. Like pcbrew, I set #8 button to shortcut to the screen. I turn it on each morning on the drive into work. I also use both time slots, 1 for lunch time and one for quitting time. Works pretty good. On the really hot days I also long press my unlock button so all windows roll down as I am walking up to the vehicle.

In the winter time, is there any benefits to this app? If it only circulates outside air, I take it that I won't heat it?

There is no benefit in winter time since your car will generally stay slightly warmer than the outside. The only advantage I can think of is it would bring some fresh outside air in, but you'll get that just from opening the door and also from using the climate system as long as you don't set it to re-circulate.

I'd rather have the Residual Heat feature instead of this

in iDrive go to Settings > Climate (might be one other menu in between can't recall from memory) and you can adjust the schedule form there.

I believe the car has to be parked and off, but aux power on. So park it and do a single stab of the off button, then try setting it while your radio is still going.

Tip of the day, right there!

And I don't believe there is any regulation preventing this from being added to the iOS app. It just sucks and needs an update. The newly released Android app on the US Play Store has this feature.

Thanks Fronzdan another great tip I'll check out! I used your other tip about using Google Maps/Send to Car for Nav destinations from my iPhone and it works great, much better than the BNW iOS app!

I have used the timer part of it and it does take some of the heat out of the car if remember to set it. I see where there is a temperature setting too but it is greyed out so I cannot use that for what ever reason. If anyone knows why it is greyed out i will certainly appreciate it.
