Golf Tee Mod Reversal
I pulled the metal retaining spring on my MPE and wired the flap open. Unfortunately it really made the car sound worse.
I went to go reinsert the pin today and the slot on the exhaust and the slot on the actuator no longer line up. Tried for quite a while to get it back in and just gave up. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a trick to get the actuator to realign itself? |

I did get spring back in but at this point I can never observe the flap in closed position. Cold start it was open from the start. Took a little low rpm cruise around the block and when I got out with car still running it was still open. Hoping actuator isn't messed up. Annoying drone at low RPM from when I pulled the pin seems to be gone though. So confused. I still have my stock exhaust. I could swap actuators if they are the same part and this one is jammed up. |

Actuators are the same. You may want to pull the pin again and see if the actuator automatically rotates by itself? As your MPE is brand new I highly doubt the flap is stuck but when you pull the pin you should be able to very easily rotate the flap with your fingers.

It's definitely not the flap in the MPE. That was moving freely yesterday before I put the spring back in.
Heading down to my shop now to boost up the back of the car and possibly swap out actuators. |

Swapped actuators. Back to normal.
Anyone reading this and thinking about pulling the pin on their exhaust I would suggest leaving it alone if you have MPE (or just disconnecting the plug to see if you like it). No audible difference in hi rev growl but annoying drone when cruising at low RPM. Much better left alone. Now on the e92 335 that is a different story. My 335is was sweet music with the hose plugged up. |
