Staggered X-Drive
Hello,
I have the 2013 335i x-drive M-sport. I am currently shopping for some 19" wheels. I am either sold on the new Vossens VPS-311 or Vorsteiner V-FF 103. Looking at these wheels I was wondering if it is fine to get staggered wheels for x-drive cars. I always thought and read in some places that it might not be good for the car to have different sized wheels for the front/rear. Also if you have any suggestions on wheel size/width/offset that would be great also. Any opinions and answers are welcome. Thank you. |

My E90 335xi had staggered's....Just use this formula and get very close to the same circumference.
Algebra (fun stuff): tire rating: A/B-C circumference=(C+(A*B)/2540*2) * 3.1415 What this is doing is taking your wheel diameter, C, adding the sidewall height, which is A*B (B is a ratio of tire width to sidewall) and converting it from mm to inches (with 2540) and *2 because you have sidewall on top and bottom, and of course we have pi. So, on my E90 335xi I had: 225/40-18 255/35-18 So my fronts were: 78.8096" in circumference And rear: 78.62408 So they were within 0.25% of each other. So those are pretty damn close IMO. At 19" and similiar setup, You're looking at: front: 225/35-19=79.168 rear: 255/30-19=78.611 delta~.7% 265/30-19=79.3538 delta~.25% Now, I'm pretty sure 255's are much more common, but I'd try and find 265's. |

The post just below this....he lists VMR wheels, with "beefy" tires:
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1081833 Even has the offsets. One shot one kill. Those are nearly identicle circumferences: Delta of .077%...VERY small difference. Front: 235 35 19 80.03404134 Rear: 275 30 19 80.09588189 |

But why do you want staggered tires on square 397 wheels? Just fit 245/45-18 square, then you also have the possibility to rotate the tires! |

No issue using a staggered setup. In Europe the xdrive msport models come standard with a staggered setup. By default this is 225/45R18 front 255/40R18 rear.

You can use a staggered setup with xDrive. You just want to make sure your rolling diameters are within 1% of each other. You can use this tool to check rather than having to do all the math yourself. Some of the more common sizes are 235/35 and 265/30 or 235/35 and 275/30. We normally recommend 19x8.5 ET35 in the front and 19x9.5 ET45 in the rear.

Thats a pretty conservative offset. Are you assuming the car is not lowered?
