USA Today (and others) today carried the recall annoucement by BMW: http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/...ecall/7546181/ regarding bolts holding the housing for the variable camshaft timing unit can loosen or break, causing the engine to go into "safe mode," where engine performance is limited. The "check engine" or "service engine soon" light also will illuminate

It only affects 2010- 2012 year models.

That's what I thought as well, but when I plugged in my VIN in that link, it said there was 1 open recall for my car (I have a 2012 328i).
