first coding session

My e-sys cable finally arrived so I got round to doing some coding. Pleased to say it all went off without a hitch.

I don't have a laptop so improvised by setting up an ethernet connection in the garage. I then used a desktop PC in the house to connect to the car in the garage.

For the ethernet link I just used a powerline adapter kit like this. I also hooked up the car to a battery charger because I was taking my time with the coding and the ignition was on the entire time.

So far I've just removed the Legal Disclaimer and added DVD in motion. More to come though

(Sherwin, spot the genitals buddy)

I don't even get DVD whilst not in motion, the bastard said it was unreadable?
I bet it's now a step less than pressing more buttons than sending a shuttle to space every time you turn the car on.

Ps, can't see the genitals, must be the same size as mine

Lol. No problems reading disks, but I've only tried a couple.
Next on the list is getting auto start stop to remember its last setting, so one less step in the startup ritual.

Nice! Not that i have been looking too hard but this is the first coding thread i have seen.

One thing i want to do is code the dashboard so the display doesnt turn orange at night. It must be possible right?

Maybe, but no-one's worked it out yet. People have physically replaced the leds to get the same result.

I know BMW already do on some models, they were standard on the e92. This was one feature I missed when I switched to the f30, so I'm happy to have them back now. Maybe they leave it for the coupes. I suspect the f32 will have them.

Yes I have seen that. I was referring to the electronic LCD display rather than the general dash. But I think u have answered my question in any case. Thanks!

Is this coding stuff hard to do? i'm guessing the disclaimer and ASS setting come in really handy. The rear DRLS look nice too

Not too difficult mate, the documentation out there is quite good. I can code it for you if you want something done, or loan you my cable if you want to try it. Let me know.

The disclaimer and ASS changes are certainly worth doing for pretty much anyone. It's nice just being able to hit the start button and drive.

I don't have HUD, so haven't really looked into the settings. According to the cheat sheet there is a turn signal setting, but no one's got it fully functional.

Something I really want to do? where abouts did you get the cable from mate ebay? Do you know need specific software to run in conjunction with the cable?
Cheers, Matt

Yeah, ebay. Some members here also sell them. The software is called e-sys. There's a 1000+ post coding thread in the DIY section with everything you could possibly want to know, and them some

Ok, so I popped in to SouthernBM to ask about changing the values (so called coding) of certain operations. Well, Andrew came up with a few good ones as well as my suggestions. They are not quite ready to go with F30s but should be up and running soon.

In the meantime, I thought it would be great get some ideas about activating and deactivating different operations. I will start.

In no particular order:

Eliminate warning/disclaimer screen.
Rear DRLs (as they too are LEDs) on with front DRLs
Indicator indication on HUD
Tyre pressure screen with actual tyre pressure for each tyre
Andrew suggested having dash lights on at all times
It may be the case for the F30 as well, but when the headlights on some Series are on, the DRLs dim. This can be changed for the DRLs not to dim.
The instantaneous fuel consumption to appear on the HUD

They are just a few changes that would suit me and possibly some of you.
Please add your suggestions.
Thanks.
