OT: What's happened to Steve Sutcliffe?

He has not written in Auto Car for sometime and his name does not appear in the list of contributors.

Anybody in the know?

I read he is an Editor-at-Large:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Editor-at-large

Quote:
An editor-at-large is a journalist who contributes content to a publication. Sometimes such an editor is called a roving reporter or roving editor.

Unlike an editor who works on a publication from day-to-day and is hands on, an editor-at-large will contribute content on a regular or semi-regular basis and will have less of a say on a specific field such as layout, pictures or the publication’s direction.

However, unlike a writer, they are allowed their own preferences in the content they have to generate and don’t always have to pitch their ideas to the main editor. Though they are still subject to the direction and oversight of chief editors and executive editors, they frequently come up with ideas for other writers to research and write. "At large" means the editor has no specific assignments, but rather works on whatever interests them.
So basically he can come and go as he pleases!!!

I don't mind Alpinas, they aren't really my cup of tea styling wise, but totally love the fine tuning that goes into engine / gearbox / chassis.

What I'm not keen on is some toad saying they match M3 performance.....because they don't.

Style is very personal, so ETTO.

Performance is not in M3 class. But for some Alpina is a better DD. As the year waiting list suggests.

Perhaps he has put on even more weight and needs to be winched into a car and then they have to cut the car to get him out!

Absolutely....I can see how jewel like ALPINA BI-TURBO B3 extra large chrome lettering may look to some. For me I think it is crass. But de-badged and de-stickered they look ok, well like a lux line with big wheels, but not really much different for the money.

I am not sure a waiting list = better in any way. More about Alpina limiting the numbers to promote some sort of uniqueness into the equation.

Wow really, a year waiting is ...well very long. That's 6 months build and 6 months cleaning the wheel spokes at the dealer in the PDI!
