Ok wow...!
I took delivery of my imperial blue/grey 328i sport line at the Welt yesterday. Having now driven two days on the autobahn and back roads of Germany I can safely gush about this car. Even with 5 people and luggage it feels awesome! The M Adaptive suspension rocks! The difference in feel is unbelievable.
It is interesting to note how different the car feels between all of the driving modes. Eco Pro should be shot and put out of my misery while sport is definitely fun. So far we are averaging close to 29mpg. Not too shabby! I won't admit to hitting the speed limited today but if I did, it would have been incredibly stable. Imperial blue is a great color and I'm really glad I bought it. But for now it is covered with road casualties so I'm going to go find a hose and try to wash it. |

That is awesome, congrats and enjoy the rest of your time in Europe! I was impressed as well on my ED in April at how fast and smooth the 328i is at high speeds on the autobahn. The car just feels like it is yearning to go well over 100mph. I totally agree about eco pro though, but at least we have the choice to never select it.

It is useful for longer distance cruising, especially with cruise control on. It is also perfect for true bumper to bumper driving at less than ten MPH; the slower foot feed tip-in and eased acceleration is an asset under this scenario.

OK finally got some decent free wifi so here are some pictures. I still love this car. Today the four of us averaged 71.4 mph with 30.6 mpg showing. It is an amazing car! I'm really happy with it!

Very Nice! Same color combo I got.
Enjoy the rest of your trip and keep us updated with pics. I still need a daily fix as I haven't taken re-delivery yet. P.S. Did you hit the rev limiter @ 155? How many miles do you have on it? I only did 125 mph = 200kph but was nice & stable. |

Arent you advised not to go over 4500 RPM and 110 MPH when the car has under 1200 miles on it (Break-in period) ?

Old school? It's right in the manual dude.. Let's not get into the debate however as other threads have covered this ad nauseum.

old school or not,
rule or not... Let's now leave the "Breaking-in Period" to the same level of color and tastes... some of us are more prudent, and follows it... or some others are more risk takers, let us all be the way we want... to each its own, to each its woman, to each its car... Peace out now!

I was nowhere near the rev limiter, but did hit the speed limiter. In the interest of discretion I did not time the top speed run but the car was still pulling hard at that speed. It felt absolutely great! And that was with 5 people and the trunk stuffed with luggage.
As to break-in there are varying thoughts on the subject. But let's just say that my road trip was very long and leave it at that. The actual number of miles on my car at the time is consistent with prudent break-in procedures. Back on topic...last year I did a ED on an e90 328i (wife's car) so I have quite a bit of seat time in both now. The F30 feels more light and nimble. It is definitely faster than the E90 is. IMHO this car corners with less body roll and has a more supple ride. However the E90 is much quieter on the highway and has a far superior engine sound. Fit and interior quality is vastly better in the F30, but I am disappointed with the paint quality on the F30. Even at the Welt there were some noticeable blemishes in the paint that were disappointing. All 3 of my e90's had beautiful paint so I think this is somewhat of a downgrade. The F30 is a great car and I will be sad to drop it off tomorrow :-( |

OMG people can't we just enjoy a friendly discussion?
Getting back on topic, here are some more pictures. I dropped the car off at the Paris CDG location yesterday. It was a sad day but hopefully the car will get on a boat soon and be home for good. We did stop and wash it thoroughly and added another coat of Zaino for good measure. During our road trip we averaged 27.5 mpg with an average speed of 79.4. Not at all bad IMHO! On a similar drive last year in the E90 we were only getting around 22 mpg so this was a distinct improvement. I do miss the silky smooth power of the NA N52 motor. But the N20 is a good successor and you can't argue with a car that will do 0-60 under 6 seconds, top off at 155, and still be able to get over 30 mpg if driven moderately. Great work BMW! |

Beautiful!
I am officially JEALOUS OF YOU. Was in Munich last week and of course I had to go to BMW Welt, drool over the cars, look at the people taking delivery of their cars and almost cry with jealousy/frustration that I couldn't do the same!! Nevermind, I comfort myself that I will finally (4+ months after ordering) collect it, here in Singapore, next Monday!

So you're trying to be "cheeky" by suggesting that holding the steering wheel at 10-2 is stupid? It's actually the PROPER way to hold the wheel. Watch how race car drivers hold it. Certainly not "gangsta style" like you probably do. In other words, you just helped me make my point. There is valuable, and useful information in the manual that should be followed. Whether it's 10-2, or break in. More than likely BMW writes this for two reasons: 1. They know better about the cars than some random folks speculating on an internet forum..and 2. They realize you don't have to be of high intelligence to drive a BMW, to which you've proven |
