Thanks, I'll try this out, hopefully it works with FLAC, since mp3s are fine.

Edit: Will have to try it out when I get home. My work laptop's virus scanner keeps flagging its installer.

My laptop did this as well but after the antivirus software scanned it, it said it was okay and let me install it.

So how can those of us who want to use flac to enhance audio go about doing so? I have all my music downloaded as MP3.

Also, once you convert to flac, how would you download it to a USB so it can be installed on your Idrive?

Obviously a rookie!!

Thanks in advance!!

Well there is no point converting your mp3s to flac (obviously) as flac is lossless, but mp3 isn't. So the 'damage' is already done. You need to rip your originals to flac.

Thanks for the information! That makes total sense.

I have about 2500 CDs I ripped to MP3 about 8 years ago. One year ago, I did it over again, but ripped to FLAC. Very smart move, the audio quality is definitely better.

FWIW, I think BMW downsamples to MP3 when transferring from USB to the car's hard drive.

PS - my ripper of choice is dbPoweramp. Great products - highly recommended.

Partially read your comment and wanted to know a good cd ripper, I have all my cds in a book in my basement, and I want to re-rip them (I also had ripped to mp3 ages ago).

So just a heads up for anyone interested, I ended up updating the Gracenote DB myself using the latest revision. It updated from 02/2013 version to 01/2016. This solved most of my issues (apart from obscure cds that it doesn't know about, or newer cds).

I did confirm that the FLAC files tagged properly, with really good help from the creator of taghycardia. I highly recommend taghycardia, even though the issue was with the car's software, and not my own files.

It just sucks that the car doesn't want to read the FLAC embedded art, and relies on the Gracenote DB instead. Plus, the fact that BMW didn't want to update it for me, while under warranty, when I was able to do so, myself, for free, based on some forum posts on here.

Use EAC (www.exactaudiocopy.de) to rip your music CDs.

Would you give some more details on how you updated your gracenote DB? Or at least direct me towards a proper forum thread?

Maybe there is an information stored in FLAC (during file creation?) that the art need to be taken from gracenote and hence NBT is forced to look into Gracenote DB? The reason why I think it might be the case is that I was able to change the cover art to some of me flac files (but very limited number though...).
I'll do some trials during the weekend and post the update.

Do you get album art on SiriusXM via Bluetooth or are you using the USB to your iPhone?

Media files, including FLAC, can be tagged with metadata. There is also a coding parameter to enable or disable Gracenote.

Hi all,

F11 06.2013 NBT also does not show the albumart for flac files. Only MP3 works, even albumart pictures bigger then 500x500.

Did someone ever find a solution for this?

Thanks
