Slightly Confused with USB / Bluetooth Options
Hi Guys,
I collected my F31 a couple of days ago and now I'm tinkering with, well, everything. And even after a good bit of reading I'm still not 100% what my car is capable of in terms of multimedia and external devices. She's a mid 2013 and I have USB, bluetooth and the business nav with the MOVE maps, no widescreen. With my iPhone 5s I can make calls via bluetooth, I can use my address book, but no bluetooth music audio. As for the USB interface it will charge the phone but nothing else. When I plug in a USB thumb drive it detects it as an external device and I can play mp3s on it and it will use and display the ID3 tag information but no album art. Should I be able to get album art from the ID3 info, too? In any case thats not bad already and I understand I could get a little better phone support if I purchased the combined USB/aux cable? But from other threads it seems I could do better again? I don't have the original order, bought 2nd hand, so I don't have a comprehensive list of equipment on the car. But when I go to bmwvin it gives me 6AC, 6AE, 6NH & 606 which confirms the above. I also have that combox in the boot that other threads mention. According to bimmertech having those options means this can be turned into extended USB? and extended bluetooth? Just by means of activating features that I already have the hardware for? Which would give me what exactly? From reading here it seems a nicer media player with album art for USB devices and the same for the iPhone using a combination of better USB support and bluetooth music audio? Does that sum it up? Cheers! |

If you're waffling about doing it, I'd highly recommend BimmerTech for the EBT upgrade. We just purchased a 2014 F31 with all the options EXCEPT the Tech Package (which included EBT amongst other things).
Streaming musics via Bluetooth was a must have for both my wife and daughter so I got in touch with BimmerTech. A quick check of my VIN confirmed that I was able do the upgrade via USB and I ordered the EBT coding (and the "legal disclaimer" shut-off). Less than 24 hours later I received an email with a link to a DropBox location with the file. Loaded the file onto a USB stick and performed the steps listed in the email. Bingo, streaming bluetooth music (as well as Office and a couple of other things)! Completed satisfied! Cheers, Treycal |

Ye thats me, I like waffling. Anyway Bimmertech wants 200 quid for it and it seems a straightforward enough DIY procedure, no?

You can easily code EBT and a ton more features by yourself. Just pick up an ENET cable off eBay for around 20 dollars. Usually the sellers will also send you links for eSys software and cheat sheets. There are also tons of resources available on this forum.

Yes thanks ordered, but it will be a while it seems. They literally come from China. Not sure how I am going to contain myself in the mean time.

Excellent. I looked at the coding instructions and just thought there was too many ways for me to brick my car so I chose Bimmertech. As always, you can only pick 2 of 3 - cheap, fast, good. |
