Diffrence in Nav units 2013-2015

i have a 2013 335 and noticed yesterday when i grabbed a 2015 328 loaner and the NAV/Multimedia setup is different than what i have. it looks like it has different animations

does it run different software? can i update to the same?

There are hardware changes as well. I'm not sure if the hardware we have can support the new software.

This is CIC vs NBT. I will explain the differences later.

An upgrade is possible but honestly not worth it in my opinion.

It could also be you have the old NBT as that was out in '13 models. If that is the case you can have the firmware updated but I'm not sure how different it would be?

There is no old NBT. You either have NBT or CIC.

So my "old" NBT without the touch controller is the same system as the "new" NBT with the touch controller you think?

Yes, you can upgrade to the touch controller. Some cars came with NBT but the old CIC style controller.

So you're initial comment may well have been wrong then as OP may well have NBT just not the touch controller. That was my point.

For F30 in NA market NBT Nav (with touch) was introduced starting with July 2013 production as part of MY14 changes. The only 3 series with NBT for MY13 was the AH3 and it did NOT have touch until MY14 production started.

For F30 outside NA market, NBT (without touch) was introduced beginning with November / December 2012 production.

The OP doesn't have NBT, he has CIC. All F30s in North America with NBT have the touch controller. Save for my car, the MY2013 AH3, which has NBT a with the standard controller.

It's definitely possible to upgrade to NBT from CIC as I did and use the same screen and controller from CIC but yes, it can be quite cumbersome as some rewiring work will be needed to get the Bluetooth, Mic and USB working.

You can check out my thread on the coding session outlining the process.

Oh wait. I know what the touch controller is now. If upgradeable what bonus would you get for doing so?
Other than the obvious; having a touchpad...

How do you know if you have NBT or CIC

Look at this image, the NBT selection is a solid red and on the CIC it's just a red outline:

Sladester100, the NBT first came out post Oct12 F31, F30 cars before that date had the CIC.

Also if you upgrade to the Touch controller you will need the handwriting module, furthermore you car needs to be KCAN2 to support the module. I think the touch control came out mid 2013 (UK), cars built before then has KCAN1.
