Ordering 328i or 428i - discounting difference?

So I am very torn. While I like the looks of the 428i better, I'll probably make my choice in part by weighing likely available discounts.

It seems that either:

discounting off of MSRP will be similar since both vehicles will be 2014 models OR

discounts off of MSRP for the 328i will be better since it has only modestly been updated from the 2012 model.

Has anyone explored this dilemma with their dealer?

Thanks for all for your thoughts.

Incentives available to the 3 series are available to the 4 series.

The only difference would come in their different selling price: 4 series are more expensive. Also, the varying residuals and money factors.

Ok, that makes sense. Do you think that newness and/or allocation limits on a 428i would make negotiated discounts harder or will dealer discounting be similar to the 2014 328i?

Logically, a 4 series will be harder to get to a better selling price on compared to a 3 series, since the 4 series is completely new. That's how supply and demand works, but in practice, the dealer can do as they please.

An ideal selling price is 500 over invoice, but it might be hard to get a 4 series at even 1000 over invoice.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised to see 4-series go for close to MSRP at least initially, will probably take a couple of months before you start seeing $X over invoice. If you're planning on getting a car now, no doubt the 328 will be a lot easier to negotiate on.

Couldn't agree more. I got my F30 like a month after they were released and they weren't discounting the car. This won't change for the 4. The 3 series will be much easier to negotiate a good deal on.

Thank you all for your thoughts. It all makes sense and with my strong desire to avoid a sunroof, it looks like the 328i is for me.

Just curious why the strong desire to avoid a sunroof? Melanoma?

I'm built like a penguin. On the F30, the presence of a sun roof means that I can either have enough headroom by reclining the seat or I can comfortably reach the steering wheel. I test drove one with the head up display but never saw it. My eyes were above the projected image unless I hunched down.
