They should be replaced under warranty but still not a great start after 600 miles.

That is disappointing. I have just placed an order today with 400 wheels.

Diamond cut/laser cut/machine cut alloys are a PITA. It's a given that some of them will have such problems: corrosion and 'white worm' under the lacquer. It's for this reason, amongst many, that I went for 400 18" painted alloys. Easier to fix, easy to insure, tougher, longer lasting, better ride, less noise, better steering feel, better handling, less expensive though not quite as pretty. Beauty has its disadvantages.

BMW should replace them under warranty ...... hopefully. How very annoying. Best of luck.

Wow, I never expected to see issues on such new wheels, especially at that cost.

Just hope mine don't go that way when they arrive!

Agree with everything except the pretty comment personally I much prefer the looks of the 18s: they have more shape, design, and character. The 19s just just like any old multi-spoke to me. Though, the 19s suit the F31 much better, the style and size of them. On the F30 M Sport, 18s all the way for me

Me too - just dont like the design of the 19" - though wouldnt have diamond cut as they all corrode far far too quickly.

I had diamond cut on my GTI - never had a problem. We don't have salt or similar on our roads though - however I do live next to the sea!

Sorry, much prefer the 19's too...

One of my friends has just bought a 520 MSport. It had 19s on it. They look awesome. Wish they did them on the 3... It would look an absolute bad boy!!!

So which do you all prefer. I was also trying to hide the wheel arch gap with the xDrive.

19" 403 M

18" 400 M

19" 401

IMO 403 hands down, I think it's irrelevant the size of the alloys in relation to the problems, as someone said earlier in the thread they have similar ones on their GTI with no issue!! 19's all the way for me IMO

Went for the 18" myself, I thought they went better on Mineral gray. The 19" IHMO suits EBII better. Anyway each to their own and I'm pretty happy with my choice. The 401 don't look particularly sporty compared to the 400M and 403M.

I've just given them a coating of Collinite 845, ready to fit when the winters come off.

I totally agree with you. I was being pretty disingenuous when I said the 19" were pretty. Had to offer a bit of a peace offering for those multi-spoke purchasers. Not delicate looking at all are they? Yep, 400 18" ALL the way!

I await the torrent of abuse.

They'll have to re-machine the wheel face and re-lacquer it if that's the way they wish to go. Not a good idea as the wheel will never be the same. Needs a complete replacement.

Without sounding like a thicko, the 19" alloys are diamond cut...what exactly does that mean?

From what little I know, 18" are cast and then painted. 19" are cast, painted and then the face is machined on a high speed lathe. They call them diamond cut.

The wheel condition looks to me like typical winter corrosion I see so often up here. The more fancy the wheel finish, the worse they deteriorate, from my observation.

Very poor if the wheels can't even take you through a winter. Cleaning and protection would also be where I'd ask questions.

Well highland Pete here's hoping the weekly scrub I'm giving mine pays off!! Joys of the north of Scotland!

F30AM if you've got the 400's maybe it's just me but they look quite similar to the 403's!? 5 multi spoke instead of 7 really being the only noticeable difference in design no?

Smaller obviously though! Hey but each to their own!!!
