That's good to hear - did you have much hassle getting them replaced, or did they accept there was something wrong without any query?

HELP. I was in the dealership today and saw two F31 cars beside each other one with the 400M wheels and the other the 403M wheels.

It does look better with the 403's.

I asked about an upgrade but my car has just gone through the paint stage.

Is it right that it is too late for them to make this minor change even at this late stage?

What about a trade in price when the car lands?

Don't worry. You've got the right wheels. Better ride and handling (M Sport suspension designed around 18" 400Ms), less noise, easier to clean, easier to fix if kerbed, insurable, less is more. So many positives. What's not to like?

You won't be able to change if it's gone into build no matter what it is. But I'd have thought the dealer could swap them with a demo car they have for a few quid? Might be worth an ask.

You could always try and swap them with someone who has 19" wheels... they would probably be only too glad to given all the problems listed :-p.

Problems?

Sure the 403M's are more difficult to clean. 19's fit the wheel openings of the F30 better, especially if you have MSport. And as they get dirty, something the Euro pads do quite well, the 403M wheels hide the disgusting brake dust better.

Cleaning is not terribly bad if you have the right cleaning brushes

and

and the long one of this to get inside the spokes and clean the wheel interior

All using good car wash soap after soaking with this cleaner

No wheel is "easy" to fix if curbed. Wheels are factory painted using powder coating. Repair shops (and I've checked into a bunch of them, including the "big guys" who advertise themselves nationwide) uses powder coating to repair. To powder coat would require the entire wheel be sand blasted and re-powdered. Powder coating a 3D surface takes skill to get right. The wheel OEM's have special equipment to powder and finish wheels properly.

LOL... No complaints from me on the ride, but I've always had the M Sport variants with the biggest alloys. If I wanted comfort I'd have ended up with a luxury model or a 7 series (which are awesome btw, but I'm not old / sane enough yet for one).

To be honest I have toyed with the idea. 19s and 90% driving around Sheffield don't really mix. But as already pointed out by NISFAN, the ride isn't going to change that much.

So, can anyone lend me £26995 ono?

It's an optical illusion. They don't fit any better. With 403Ms you have more wheel and less tyre and with 400Ms you have more tyre and less wheel. The overall diameter is the same in both cases as otherwise your gearing would be buggered.

Oh, and because of this the 400Ms are less easy to kerb.

I think he means the wheels fit better, not the wheel and tyre.

I hear 16" wheels are quite good for those who like curbs and with thicker tyres they fit just as well on the F30 :P... lol sorry couldn't resist... but I'm so going to kerb mine today now I've said that.

I did say it was an optical illusion and he did say they 'fit the wheel openings better'.

Anyway, no need for all of you to get your knickers in a twist just because you have spent extra on an inferior set-up.

hehe...

Well it's not an optical illusion that's the point you may be missing. Would it be an optical illusion if the wheels were 14", no it'd be... pants.

330d M sport, with variable suspension, to suit me as a daily drive to my other car... going for 19" wheels is hardly the wrong decision (for me)...

But buying a 330d M sport, opting for 18" wheels because it makes the ride better... perhaps the wrong decision... Honda, 330d luxury come to mind?

Each to their own... which I respect... I've been laughing not getting angry

I know what's right for me, and it's what I'd recommend to others if they wanted a more sporty looking car.
