If YOU were the product manager for the F30, what would you have built?
If YOU were the product manager for the F30, what feature set would you have put in the F30? (ignoring styling, which is a completely subjective discussion anyway)
With the understanding that the price would have to be in the same ballpark as the 2011 E90 models + 5% or so... It's an interesting exercise... As unimpressed as I am with the F30, it does seem like they nailed all the key stuff. It just doesn't feel like a jump from an E90 335i at all, but that has a lot to do with how good the E90 335i is! |

The one thing that comes to mind for me would have been an all-digital speedometer/tach/fuel guages, etc... I'm surprised that they stuck to the usual 4 dials, especially in this day and age. That's an area Audi can easily beat them...

I thought the e90 gauges were pretty damn good, it was hard to improve on those. The F30 ones aren't very sporty though.
Personally, I would have given the F30 a completely new and unique dash, instead of just copying the 1er. Then again, I am sure they were told to use the 1 series dash |

I would have kept the same dimensions from the E90 and gone for even bigger weight saving. The E90 is plenty big enough for 4 adults so there was no need to make it larger.

Here's what I would have done differently:
-no electromechanical steeering -keep the inline 6 instead of the turbo 4 as the base engine -ditch the runflat tires -bring back the oil dipstick

The only thing I really would have changed would be the gauges. They are dated looking (I hate the ones in my F10, so boring) and need some additional displays on the dash for infotainment.
Otherwise, I think the car is spot on. |

I would have done the exact same thing that they have done. Make the car LESS PORKY
Also, I would have improved on the steering feel and not dumbed it down. Haven't driven the new 3er so I hope that they did not ruin the steering feel. As for instrument panel ever since E46-E65 they have not been much to brag about. The E90-92 instrument cluster was also too blah....and plain.

Headlight, simplify the lines...
Headlight extend to the kidney is unnecessary. Sorry to say but it really looks like EYE GUM for me!!!
Currently five different style too complex! Modern line, Sport line, Luxury Line, M-Sport plus NO LINE, why not simplify to Executive, Sport and Luxury as usual...
