Oregon/Washington Shocks/Springs install
I need to put my OEM shocks and springs back to my car as I am going to sell it. Few shops I called in Portland area including AR quoted me 7~8.5 hours which is like $700+. Does anyone know a shop that can do it better? I am willing to drive up to Seattle for that.
I installed my Bilstein shocks and H&R springs at EAS in Anahiem for $250 or $270, which took less than 3 hours. |

There's a BMW Indy mechanic in Portland. I don't remember his name. Google "BMW Repairs Portland." I don't know how he prices out compared to dealer service. A dealer is going to refer to the Chilton and that's the time you're going to be charged for. Chilton time for shocks and struts on my old Subaru was 6 hours. I have a mechanic friend at work who did it himself and it still took 4 hours. I think you're looking at a 6+ hour job in any event.

Well, it's a long time ago now. But I'll update. I got a something like $700( $800?) deal at PSI for a package I mentioned above. They did the job, but they up-charged later like $100 more, taking advantage of a note they put on TPMS swap (The ones in my old 19" wheels + tires into 17" OEM wheels I bought to trade in at dealership) on the initial price quote that that the TPMS job cost may vary, they charged $200 for TPMS swap of 4 wheels. WTH? Still, it was cheaper than paying the BMW techbook quoted $700 for shocks/springs swap alone. Oh, also they took my $20 BMW valve stem caps.
So I still don't know any shop who can do affordable suspension job for F3X/F8X chassis in Portland area. The person above might know. |

From what I've gathered, the F3x suspensions are more involved than the E9x was. My F30 was the first one that PSI did and it took them 3-4 hours longer than an E9x would have. That was just for a set of springs. AR removed the springs at the end of the lease and it was close to an all day job with an alignment included.

Needless to say, AR is a great shop. Coming from CA had spoiled me. |

I just swapped in H&R springs on my F30 and by all means, it was not difficult at all. The most involved task was actually trying to align the rear control arm into the wheel hub connection. BMW's are manufactured to offer such little wiggle room for error that is most items are not perfectly aligned, bolts, nuts, etc wont fit in. Now that I have done my suspension, I'm pretty sure it could be knocked out in 4-5 hours if I had an extra set of hands.
