Anyone from San Antonio
Thought I'd get this one started here for us F30 owners. Anyone else in the Alamo City area with one of the "new breed" 3-Series? Surely I'm not the first!

Good. OK, that's 2 of us. I'm out in Boerne, so it's a tad further than 40 minutes to SM, but the back roads can't be beat!

Mothers is one of the biggest / we'll known names but they were a little pricy. You can probably talk them down. I went with Custom Sounds as they carry Pinnacle. They are near 410 and 281.
I put 30 on the sides (front and rear) and 15 on the rear window. If you want 3M I would recommend Precision solar tint (410 and Fredricksburg road). The darkest 3m you can get is 35 there but I was able to get Pinnacle at 30 which is the darkest legal you can get at Custom Sounds. Not much difference but I felt it looked a little nicer. $289 for the 3M or $350 for the Pinnacle. |

Wish I could help, but I had mine done at SunBusters in Austin, where I bought my car. I think they have a San Antonio location, though. One thing they did that I really liked was that they tinted my sunroof along with the windows - I didn't think this made much of a diff until I tried it during the heat of the summer. REALLY cuts down the heat coming in from when the shade is pushed back.

Yep I'm here in SA. I've seen 5 or 6 other F30s in my parking garage at work as well.
As for tint, thinking about getting my done soon. BMW of SA said it would be ~$300, but would I be better off going elsewhere? |

Hard to say - dealers will get a discount on tinting due to the volume of cars they send over, although you might ask who they send them to and then check that shop's reputation. I had my car done through BMW of Austin, because they take all their cars to SunBusters and get a volume discount, which they pass on to their buyers. I would not have been able to get it done for less coming in on my own, even though I am a longtime customer of that shop. $300 sounds about right, depending on what type of film (ceramic is best, stay away from dye as it won't last) if they're giving you their discounted price.

Interesting...maybe they only do it on cars being purchased from them. I agree that Mother's would not be my first choice.

If anything, it might depend on our CA. They know it can save us money going direct and they might do that to help earn trust and build a better relationship with the buyer.
I was going to buy from BMW of SA (really liked my CA and he was the one that told me to go to mothers) but the general manager got involved with my deal and was a real jerk and was being very cocky to me as I was prepared with invoice costs and a leasing app on my iphone to compare their numbers with what I should / wanted to pay. He pissed me off so much I walked out. I immediately called BMW of Austin, got the exact deal I wanted and I placed the order (didn't have to put any deposit down). When I picked it up a few months later there were no surprises, exactly what I wanted and was the absolute best car buying experience ever. Anyways, back to the topic The CA in Austin didn't necessarily tell me they don't do it but he said I should go to SunBusters as he uses them for his own vehicles and said none of his customers have had a bad experience. |

Since I lived in Austin for 5 years before moving to the SA area, I had dealt with BMW of Austin then and also as far back as 2001 when I bought my first BMW from the same CA as I've been working with recently. Between my wife and I, we've purchased 4 BMWs from them since 2008 - and have always had an extremely positive experience, which extends to service as well. BMW of SA has been great for service since moving here 16 months ago, but I've not bought a car from them. I heard they had a bad reputation until about the time I moved here and that they were under new management. So far so good, but I'm surprised the general manager treated you that way. They seem to have a huge inventory and can't imagine why they'd not give you a good deal.
I digress, though - I have used SunBusters since the early 1990s when I was driving Porsches, and never had a bad experience. They've corrected a couple minor things that needed attention after a year or so, and they always gave me a great price. This time around, my CA offered to get it done for me as I was 2 hours away, and the guys at SunBusters did tell me that they get a lot of business from BMW of Austin. The tint on my wife's 2011 128i convertible is still perfect, and she has to park her car outside in the sunlight every workday. After 3 years, no issues. You really can't go wrong with that tinter. That said, are you going to have them tint your sunroof as well? I didn't think it was that big of a deal, but they did it at no additional cost and it really makes a difference, especially in the summer.

I live in San Angelo, about 3 1/2 hours away. I am looking for someone to help me out with some coding as well. I don't think there are 5 F30's in the entire area, so it seems a trip to SA on a long weekend will be mandatory.

Im game for a meet in San Antonio or Austin. To meet and greet and see other cars and coding would be awesome also. I've been wanting to get some coding done and just find other cool ways to mod my car.

I'll be here until the 15th of March...after that, I'm on my way to coastal North Carolina.
