JB4 Drivetrain Malfunction?

Hey guys,

I just recently installed a JB4 tuner on my 435i. It seems to work well, but whenever I flood it, I get a drivetrain malfunction error code. I don't get any loss of power and the overall performance isn't affected. Is this something I should worry about? I don't like seeing error codes and I want to make sure this isn't something potentially bad.

Do you have the USB cable? Have to read codes, and just double check the install. Everything else stock?

What year is your car? And double check what firmware you are running.

Any lights should go away if they appear from installation.

What codes are you getting? You need to scan the codes with the JB4.

Don't assume you got the correct firmware. I got an OBD2 JB4 set-up and w/o the right firmware my JB4 wouldn't work.

As everybody has stated. Check the firmware if it is the correct one for your car and check which map you are currently at.

I would start by checking installation , then update the firmware.
Try to drive the car again and see if you are still having problems.
If you are , use the USB cable to pull the codes.

I'll mention it again. You need to pull the codes you are getting. Without codes you are blind.

If you bought it new, e-mail Burgertuning.

Their support is amazing.

In case there was a doubt that the other posters were in the wrong, I'd recommend updating firmware anyway and reading the code.

I will third it LOL

In general when something goes wrong pulling the codes is always the answer, stock or tuned.

Probably should read the codes and verify the latest firmware.

Check your installation of CP and intake, if you have a vacuum leak, or boost leak this might be upsetting your car's delicate sensibilities.

As is always the case for advice read the fault code your particular car is throwing and search that or post it in BMS' support area for advice on what might be causing it.

bump...going through the same motion after installation. Installed the latest PWG firmware from the N55 jb4 thread.

JB4 works but the car will throw the code sometimes without actual loss in output.

Everything is connected except the flex fuel connector, actually didn't plug the female/male harnesses together on the JB4 (that's how i interpreted the installation lol)

When I check for codes via laptop, says there are none...and when I restart the car it goes away to only come back later.

I have had this error with a different piggyback when I disconnect the battery and either install or return to stock. Upon initial start up I get that indication, it then goes away and never returns, no codes thrown.

Not sure if you guys are getting this indicator more than the 1 time post initial install, or if it's like my situation. I think it is normal following battery disconnect and initial startup, at least that has been what I've seen.

I get it often enough every time I drive, it will go away sometimes.

Just wondering what is causing the issue. I've read horror stories from guys cars just stopping mid drive (steering locks up, loss of power).
