Excellent Mark.
My wife has a story about that experiment. Her lab partner didn't just drop in a sliver of Potassium but a chunk. They didn't find any pieces of the beaker afterwards.

Thanks, guys. I was using my 120-300 at 300mm and was a good 30ft away. The prof doing the demo told me to put on goggles, which made photography a bit difficult, but he insisted, even though I was that far away. The "blast" blew pieces of potassium past me. I was amazed. He used a piece about the size of a pea.

See if this GIF works.

Nice winery shot.

How is the heat there? My daughter was thinking about tubing this weekend, but reluctant to leave the safe harbor from heat, San Francisco. I also asked here to be sure there was water in the river before heading out.

Nice Blue Moon here tonight. I'd go grab a shot, but we have pretty high humidity. I doubt it would be very clear.

Anywhere more than a few miles inland was roasting

It cooled off a bit today, but now the humidity is climbing from monsoonal moisture coming up from the south. We also have several large fires burning too. Ugh.

This image wasn't enhanced, taken with a high dollar body with a fancy lens, but the composition and story might overcome the former and lend argument, which the majority of enthusiast photographers understand, that ultimately, it's the subject matter and story that makes the shot.

iPhone 5S, juvenile hummingbird, possible heat exhaustion.

Pre and post images show recovery. All is good!

I wish I could do that, they do trust me and I can get very close. Once in awhile we have conversations too.

This was the first aurora shot taken at the end of last summer. Taken when there was still a little light and afterglow in the western sky.
I'm hoping we're in for another good season now that the evenings are starting to darken.
