don't think i've ever met anyone who got a 335 regretting that they got it over the 328. Can't say the same if it was reversed...

I can vouch for the fact that the 2014 328i does sound different to the 2013. Throatier but still not too loud, so it strikes a nice balance.

I think it comes down to the question of which is the right car for you for most of the time. Each car has its advantages and disadvantages, but what you have to decide is which of these attributes is more important to you.

Personally, I am going for a 328i as I felt it struck a nice balance and was more than enough car for me.

Another vote for 328i. I'm coming from an e92 335i and waiting for my F30 328i to be delivered (hopefully this weekend!) My daily need is a fun daily driver, as I do not autocross or track my car. I realized that I've not utilized the power of my current car, and frankly don't need that power for my use. The 328i is MORE than capable, very quick, a bit more fuel efficient. Looking forward to my new ride and highly doubt I'll regret it!

If you liked the 328i as much as the 335i, just get the 328i and pocket some extra cash.

I don't think I'll regret the 328i either. I'll be able to use more of the performance more of the time, and I'll save money every month on the lease and fuel too. I'm not the world's biggest fan of my 2011 335i so it would be nice to have a change.

Although for me the choice is clearly the 335, i know so many people whom the better choice would be the 328i. I get such an adrenaline rush from the 335 that its almost therapeutic! Plus many of the roads where i live are excellent -- a big factor IMO. But if you think the 328 is what you need, you are probably right. Great bang for the buck.

I'm going to give you my (probably unhelpful) starbucks coffee analogy.

Think of the 328i as a "Grande" and the 335i as a "Venti". When I drink coffee I usually only need a grande, but there are times I want more and should have got a venti. Those times are rare though and 95% of the time, grande is the perfect balance between cost/usage. It's not a matter of total cost because I could afford both, but if you can get by on the grande and pocket the extra savings to blow on something else, it makes sense.

Point being, you'll need to decide what makes the most sense for you. Do you think you'll need the extra power? If so, then get the 335i. If not, maybe the 328i grande works best for you. Sounds like you are leasing, so it's not like you'll have to live with the decision for a long time.

I like the starbucks analogy, as it's entirely appropriate.

I always order the smallest, and even then I pour out 1/3 of the cup - I'm a tea drinker with milk and sugar so the brew only works with the right mixture.

Seriously, I would have ordered a 320i, but they don't do sport auto transmission in the US on the 320i, and this is my first automatic, so I wanted to have some semblance of control. I'll probably regret not going for a 320i / Sports Package / 6MT. The 320i is a great package and unfortunately it's under rated.

I probably would've considered the 328 if there was a PPK coming for it. Not having that pretty much took it out of the running for me.

I am not sure if people realize you cannot get the M-Sport on the 328 in Canada I believe.

To put things in perspective, in Poland the price difference between a 328 and a 335 is $25 Cdn (both with M-Sport, 335 with electric seats, 328 with manual).

If I could pay just $8K increase for a 335 the answer would be clear.

Also, are there any other differences other than the engine size and M-Sport kit that the $8K difference covers?

Of course if you find the car expensive to begin with and the M-Sport is not that important to you, the 328 is a great car.

Personally I have an almost loaded 428 with individual interior on order - price $86K Cdn.

I am missing Canadian prices (hard to believe the US prices are even less).

I know!! We gat screwed here in Puerto Rico as well!!! I paid 87k for my 435i convertible!! I love the car but the prices here in comparison to the states are crazy!!

I'd prefer the 328i over the 335i because it's more economical. The way I optioned the 328i vs. 335i is equal to about a $5000 savings which is a sizable amount of money in my opinion.

If I would have spent that much more for the 335i, I would just get the Audi S4 instead.

328i > A4

but for my purposes

S4 > 335i

I am coming from a 2008 Subaru Legacy GT so the 328i has a substantial power advantage over the Subaru with a much much better automatic transmission.

IMHO, for the 328 and 335 test drives it is important to go wide open throttle at highway speeds.

The short gearing and aggressive throttle opening from small gas pedal movements can make the 328 and 335 seem similar in performance during city driving speeds, but at highway passing speeds there are no tricks available to mask the power difference between the two cars
