True effects of upgrading chargepipe?

Hi guys,

I am on the verge of ordering a new chargepipe for my car. My currents mods are listed in my sig and im basically looking for increased throttle response and overall smoother power delivery. I have heard that chargepipes can "reduce" turbo lag. I assume it feels this way since the air can be delivered at a higher volume and more consistently. I also run E85 on Map 5 and don't want to risk the plastic pipe blowing as I have seen it do even under stock conditions.

Any input helps!

An aftermarket charge pipe offers reliability and better throttle response.

In terms of better throttle response, some people feel it others dont. That being said you should still get an aftermarket charge pipe because yours will eventually fail with the added boost

I went ahead and ordered the ER from Mike / Extreme Power House because my last N55 split one and I don't want that issue again. I got the package today (thanks Mike)

I'll have it installed when they have the car to install the MPPK after it's broken in.

So the BMW dealership doesn't have a problem installing a non-OEM aftermarket part?

Nope, not in this case. Dealerships vary about how they treat mods, and if you can find one that's more relaxed, all the better.
If you think about it though the part they will be changing will actually be better than the stock part. Odds are it will never split, especially when the engine is under load. All they have any responsibility for is their workmanship. They won't warranty the part if it were to fail somehow, and it doesn't do anything that can harm the vehicle in the short or long term. Plus if they happen to be a Dinan authorized dealership they are already selling modifications to the car that are non-OEM and installing them.

A charge pipe will not affect "turbo lag", as it has nothing to do with the turbo building boost more quickly; an aftermarket downpipe will have more effect. It will resist failing due to increased boost pressure and maybe provide a smoother airflow, but that's pretty much all it can do.

The biggest advantage of an aftermarket charge pipe are

1) 100% reliable as stock pipes tend to fail

2) Better Throttle response and moderately better air flow

3) Meth bungs if ever you plan on going meth.

Just bought charge pipes for both sides of the intercooler. I have to bring my car to Lux Motorwerks to put my winter tires on soon. I'll add this upgrade to the itinerary.

Both sides of the intercooler? Are there similar cracking probs on the "in-side" to the IC?
