My brief review of 2016 F30 340i Msport

Only driven once so far.. but took it out around town in all the areas I was familiar with...
My dealer has been kind enough to order me an Msport spec'd out exactly as we want it... and take it or leave it when it arrives.
An M sport with the 19 inch wheel upgrade and standard Msport suspension (no track package or adaptive suspension) arrived early in the wrong color but it gave me a chance to get an early preview before ours arrives in a few weeks.

The steering.. I absolutely hated it on our 2013 M sport w/ adaptive suspension... a near complete improvement on the 2016 model.. still a little light but weightier than before and most importantly no dead on center feel much better road feel thru the curves.. regardless of road conditions.. all I know to say is that it just feels the way it should..

I was really surprised how comfy the ride was... I drove it in Sport almost the entire time (if there were just some way to default to this all the time it would be perfection!) soft over the road bumps ultra smooth on newer pavement and no sense at all of rough riding on older/cruddy pavement.. because of this I would now like to re-order a different car to include the upgrade 19" wheels....

They must have changed the software on the gear shifting.. always abrupt on 2013 now was Cadillac smooth.. slow or fast...

Didn't get to spin the engine up too much.. it's a brand new car... but again smoother quicker response.. engine noise nice.. but who knows if that's piped in like the M3?

Over all very nice.. and a huge improvement over the 2013

The engine noises are piped in on all the cars now. Not just the M's. Also, it may have not had the Sport Transmission. The Sport makes it shift much quicker.

Glad to hear there are some improvements.

With regards to the parts catalogue the same electric steering is used in per-LCI and LCI. Unfortunately the 340i steering parts are not yet listed so it could be, they got a different unit. Will see when the BMW "WebETK" is updated.

Maybe just the steering software? Or what else could have changed?

It's mentioned in the BMW press release.. all new steering column/unit... feels like the one in the M3... all new suspension.. 5 rods instead of 3 to stiffen chassis and soften ride.. which it feels like is mission accomplished.. almost certainly improvement to software.. and new more powerful smoother engine...

This is true, but I like the outside sounds of the B58 better than the N55 as well.

Question is: how will it sound with MPE?

Has the MPE been developed for the 340i? I didn't see it as an option when I ordered mine

These reviews where gear changes don't happen at redline are getting "boring" now. Sorry OP but enough of the dick tease already!!!

We need a thread that says I tracked the 340i, or I drag raced the 340i or I crashed the 340i while doing 155 mph. That's the thread we (read I) the people want. Can someone do this please

Steering rack is updated every 4 months, regardless of LCI. The part used since July 2015 is different from the one used since March 2015 is different from the one used since November 2014 etc.

What exactly changes there with every update is anyone's guess.

Nice! I'm thinking I will have them installed together when they both become available

I raced an older naked suzuki yesterday in my 340i. I didn't know what the fuck he was doing for a bit, because he was aggressively riding my inside corner instead of the outside like he wanted to pass. I rolled over to the slow lane and then realized what the fuck he wanted and gunned it. I kept up with him in comfort mode until we ran out of road, so I consider it a good quality draw.

My wife was very upset though.

Thanks, this is what I am looking for. Keeping up with a bike in comfort mode is good quality draw to me too

I think the transmission changes went into effect in 2014. I've noticed my buddies 2012 and a couple 2013's I test drove were a bit abrupt almost all the time. I only drove one 2014 and didn't notice it and my 2015 in comfort mode is super smooth.
