F30 330D small improvements on e90

Very good test on the 330d in estate guise in today's Autocar. Best in class conclusion (but we knew that ).

Out of interest I dug out the test of the e90 lci 330d test they ran back in 2008. Although the performance and economy are not as big a jump as previous inter generation improvements there are some gains -

30-70 through the gears e 5.4 secs f 5.1 secs
50-70 in optimum gear e 3.0 secs f 2.7 secs
70-90 in optimum gear e 4.4 secs f 4.3 secs
80-100 in optimum gear e 5.1 secs f 5.1
0-100 e 15.0 secs f 14.2 secs
Brakes

60-0 e 2.51 secs f 2.62 secs

Time round dry handling circuit e 17.9 secs f 17.7secs

Overall test economy e 39.6 f 42.6 mpg

Thanks for that, certainly looks a little bit quicker. What 0-60 did they get with it? Anyone got any 335d figures to compare?

Dont forget the F31 330d is 65kg (or 10 stone) heavier than an F30 330d so the track figures and performance figure could well be improved for a F30 330d. Drag is more too.

5.5 secs, two up and full tank. 0 - 100 in 14.2 secs is a decent figure.

They're a great set of numbers. Reading the test of the e90 330d (same engine updated) Autocar were blown away by the performance / economy blend. Seems to be an established trend for BMW.

No.But the Autocar figures for the (previous generation)535d were 0-60 in 6.0 seconds and 0-100 in 15 seconds, so a few tenths quicker than that. It may just hang onto the tail of the f30 330d.

Found a few more figures...go to here and scroll down to the bottom of the page. Click the "Clear All" button, then "335d coupe" button:

http://www.autozine.org/Archive/BMW/old/3er_E90.html

335d
0-60 5.9/5.8
0-100 13.8

Also the E90 LCI 330d for comparison:
0-60 6.0
0-100 15.0

Some on the F30: http://www.autozine.org/Archive/BMW/new/3er_F30.html

328i
0-60 5.4 to 5.8
0-100 14.1 to 14.9

335i still looks quick on paper..........
335i
0-60 5.2/5.3
0-100 13

These tests DO highlight how much the timing gear/testers gives much different results.
