Injector failure
My car is only 8 weeks old or so and was towed to dealership on Monday due to it idling very rough and engine light on, it wasn't drivable at all. Initially I thought it may be a bad batch of fuel as it started surging about a week ago and progressively got worse. It was diagnosed with misfire on cylinder 1, they replaced the injector and the spark plug due to it being fowled from excessive fuel, all seems ok now.
Pretty disappointed as its virtually a new car, hopefully this is an isolated incident. |

sorry to hear that mate.
if you look around the forum you'll find that injector failure on cylinder 2 is a pretty common issue around here. Me and a few others already had the same problem. |

I have been using 98RON in my 3 Series cars since it has been available without any issues

Well my engine light came on again today, rough idle and no power, think it went into limp home mode. Booked in again tomorrow at dealer, think it's the same problem as before, one of the injectors.

A service tech told me it had something to do with the overall balance of the engine that causes injectors on Cylinder #2 to crap itself.
Not even sure what that means but since getting fixed last year I haven't had any issues yet. |

My car was in for a service but I also asked them to take a look at why the car had so much lag and felt underpowered.
She said there was an injector failure but she did not tell me which one. Also, she said all of them would be replaced cos "that's what we do". Sounds a bit fishy. The parts are on back order from Germany. I read on another forum where a guy had an injector failure which then caused catastrophic engine failure resulting in a new engine being required. Is it safe to continue driving the car until the injectors are replaced? Also the feeling of being underpowered has been since I bought it in February 2014. I was just too busy to take the car in and also thought it was just the engine needing to be run in. Apart from this butt dyno symptom I had nothing else to go on, no warning lights no nothing. Could have happened anytime in the last 6 months. Could engine damage already have occurred? |
