I could not fathom spending $50K+ to not get exactly the car I want. Two months of waiting is no fun, but better the two months up front than to have that slight ting every day for years when you get in a car that is missing option xxxxx.

I think that depends on what option xxx is. In my case upon realizing I had no HK system I went to the car paired my iPhone and played my music and found out it was good enough. By the time I drove out of the lot I had the signature stupid ass grin.

Kind of off the lot with 1 exception, I searched high and low for the car with options I wanted. After visiting several dealers and endless internet searches. I found a possible car 50 miles from home. This was in feb. 2013 and the car was a brand new 2012 335I with every option. I went and looked and drove the car and then sat down with the CA. The car had a sticker of 58,795.00 and also had a lot of add on accessories from BMW in an effort to make the car stand out on their showroom floor. (SportLine trunk mat, SportLine Ebrake handle, SportLine storage case in rear seat and 20inch Wheels). The dealer wanted 53,500.00. Well, I felt that was to high. They informed me that since they were an upstate NY dealer that moving a RWD car was near impossible and they had been sitting with the car for almost a year. I told them I really did not want the 20 inch wheels and did they have the sportlines that came off the car. They did and I said I will take it that way. How much? 51,000.00 was the answer. I said thanks but I'll keep looking. They asked what I would offer. I said, I'm good at 48,000. CA said, I don't think they will go for that. I said, no problem. I don't need the car since my e90 only has 46,000 miles and is mint condition. So, the manger comes in and says, I can do 49,000.00. I said, no 48,000.00 is what I am willing to do. He paused and said. will you do a deal today for your price. I said, right now. Deal was done. So, I got the car a 2012 BSM RWD 335I with H&K sound, GPS, PDC, Cameras front, rear, under mirrors, 8AT trans, BMW apps, BMW connect, and all the other bells and whistles I can't even remember. Bonus, when I picked it up they left all the Sportline accessories in the car. So, I got what I wanted without the wait for my price of 48,000.00

Dude that's 10k off, that's a killer deal. I got 6k off and thought I had killed it, lol. I actually had gotten 7,000 off but because I could only pick up the car 2 weeks after the deal date they said the only way they could keep it was if we added an extra 1k to the negotiated price. Msports were hard to come by in Dec 2012 so I had to go with that.

Lease was running out. Spec'd out some minimum criteria (335i, M-Sport, DHP, auto 8 sp) at the dealer, and came back with 2 choices on entire west coast. I took the EBII that had to be trucked in from another county not far away.

It has a few features I didn't want but leasing is not big monthly price diff. I've come to accept and enjoy those features except for the Lane Departure / MPH (Driver Assistance Plus?).

It's all about the deal! We did well too, getting $6800 off because it was a '12 special order that someone decided not to take and it had been sitting on the lot for 6 months. We also got them to switch out summer tires for all weather since we got it end of December. I felt like we stole it considering we traded in an '11 VW Routan, and while it was fully loaded with everything, you don't really go looking for a minivan at a BMW dealer.

I drove by a month ago and the poor thing was still sitting in their back lot not even in the used cars. While I do not miss driving it, it was a good family car. Seeing it sitting unloved did make me kind of sad!

Ordered both my current F30 and my last E90. Both cars had somewhat unique interior colors (chestnut on my E90 and everest grey on my F30) and most options, meaning they would not likely be available off the dealer lot. As others have mentioned, the 2 month wait was a small price to pay to get the exact car I wanted.

Leased off the lot vehicle because it was 90% what I wanted AND got extra discount and incentives. It only had 3 miles on it when I test drove it and ended up keeping it. If it wasn't for the extra incentives, I would have ordered it.

Yeah I could not believe they took the offer. The sales guy told me when the mgr left that the car had been sitting in the showroom on and off for 12 months and he was sure it would never sell. My SA was shocked that the mgr took the deal too. I guess in the end he figured he was at 49,000.00, I was at 48,000.00 for a grand he did not want to lose more money letting it sit with MY14 on the horizon. This was also a very large dealership. On top of their vast outdoor lot. They had 3 levels of inside parking/storage for cars. He took me in there and I could not get over their inventory. But I did notice that they had a huge amount of SUV's and all Xdrive cars. Guess someone screwed up ordering the car I bought but it worked out well for me. Here's a current pic of my car with the 403m's mounted. Sorry for the crappy cell pic.

I searched online inventories at every dealer from Naples to Orlando, and found one in Tampa almost exactly as I wanted. The Tampa dealer, Reeves, also happened to make the best lease deal even though the car had more options than any other 328i I could locate.

I was surprised how few 328i's in stock have the lighting package.

No brainer for me...ordered. wanted MSport, 6mt, DHP, EB2, CWP, Tech Pckg and I was moving to Belgium at the time. So did the Mil purchases program, saved a ton of $ (plus no tax), got exactly what I wanted, and minimal interaction with the dealership.

Ordered. My first BMW, and I wanted one right. Kinda hard to get my custom specs, so I forced myself to be patient. Well worth it, especially Euro Delivery.

Off the lot for me...research vehicles with a set budget; found a left over 2012 328i Modern Line with convience package, which is what I wanted. Got it for about $6500 off MSRP, can't be happier.

Out of curiosity, were you between months from when you struck the deal and delivery? That's crazy to tack on $1000 bucks because you couldn't pick up a car you have a deal made on....especially if you've signed on the deal. That's a $500 dollar per week storage fee, ridiculous.

In Dec 2012 when shopping for an EBII M Sport 335i X drive, there were only like 4/5 within 300 miles from where I am. One of them had everything with a sticker of 62k. One was sold as I was on the phone about to give my credit card details to put a hold on the car. 2 did not have DHP and Driver Assist Package. That left the one I bought which was about 60k (MSRP). At 7k off I had reduced MSRP to 53k and honestly given the amount of interest around December '12 in the msport EB2, the dealer felt having to hold the car for 2 weeks was too long considering a customer could come in and buy at a price higher than me. Don't think of it as storage costs, look at it from their end. I had not signed any papers yet and could have walked away. I tried to get the one for 62k but they refused to budge on the price and I would have ended up paying 1k over the price of the one I got. It had DAP+, a feature I was not interested in but also had HK.

At the end of the day, 6k was still about 10% off sticker for a 2013 model. Not bad

I guess I was wondering really, if you could have signed the deal (paid, deposit, owed money etc) and saved that $1,000, then took delivery on your own time if everything was done. I was saying storage fee kind of facetiously, because assuming everything was done that's essentially what it would have been.

At any rate, your deal wasn't done and 6k off is still 6k off.

Yes, they wanted me to be there for signing the deal etc. I remember I had to sign the deal in front of cameras when I got there. It's their policy. Also I am in NJ, I got the car on Delaware.

If the deal was signed and sealed that day I would have got the 7k off

Euro Delivery and PCD experiences are only available with custom orders. Plus it's almost impossible to find the exact match if you're particular about your configuration. I didn't even bother checking dealer inventory and placed my order right away.

Why thank you. I admit, the financial was all my husband, though our sales guy was absolutely amazed at my knowledge and interest in cars.

Yes, I love cars, I go to the auto shows, I tend to drive 'fast' and our subscription to Car and Driver is in my name.
