Okay so any one out there than can suggest what I can do to prepare for a lemon (Cali) or Trade assist?

I'm getting my car back today (supposedly). It went in again for the Stall/Limp Mode - This time they replaced the cooling fan. (last time they updated the software)

My car has been in the shop 3 times.
One: for stall/ limp mode
Two: for other issues like door panel, gauge cluster, cabin noises
Three: for stall/ limp mode, noisy brakes

Total time in shop: 3 months. Car was acquired May 6th. so I've had my car 5 months out of 8.

This time the SA even said they drove it home to check for any faults/problems. Apparently without my authorization- yes they drove the car back to the Service Managers home at night. I've heard about this, but with prior authorization. Is this OK?

Also, supposedly they have processed a check (refund) for two months - I will apply for another month for this last visit...

I can feel that the limp mode will come back again - and by that time I won't be driving that car again. Any suggestions on whom I should talk to about this issue?

I've been calling Customer Care over the phone, and having them notate the issues on my account.

Any ideas?

You're absolutely wrong. That is definitely the limp mode issue.
I've had it twice, and it is characterized by low power (safety mode), and not being able to pretty much go anywhere. Yes the car will still move forward but at dangerously low levels of power. Been following this thread every since i got my car..

Am I? I didn't say that it wasn't "limp mode" which limits power. I'm saying it doesn't seem to match characteristic presentation related to the 335i M Sports. Thanks for your valuable input to the thread. I'm sure everyone will find it very helpful.

So I finally got my car to limp in the winter....I was dogging it pretty hard, and downshifting in comfort mode from about 65 at a traffic light. Dropped, into second gear a little too early and bang, no rev match(which has generally been the tell tale sign in my limpies) Power loss, but I revved all the way to 7k at one point going up a hill. At the top was a stop sign, I stopped and turned the car off, it was recently so it was quiet at night and I could hear for the first time the fan really getting a work out!!! Turned back on and all good...no codes warnings or anything though.

12k miles after my first limp mode I got hit again today. A balmy 50 in MA and was driving pretty mellow. I was able to pull over so I popped the hood to hear what was going on. Fan was very loud. No warnings on dash. Restarted car a all was well. Took it for a good run after and it was ok. The only recent change to my car was the power kit got installed.

Hope I go another 12k without an episode.

I have been leaving my A/C unit on the floor on a low setting at about 67-70 degrees since my 3rd limp mode which was about 3 months ago, and today I accidentally shut it off, and what do you know, 5 minutes after that at a red light and went to accelerate and I was limp with no warning lights, so I reached the next red light shut it off and back on and threw my AC back on. I usually just try different methods to cope with limp mode, having the A/C on might not have a thing to do with the car going limp, but just funny I accidentally shut it off today and limp mode came back. That was my experience today.

Fault Codes

All, I just purchased my car used with 14K miles on it. 2013 335I Msport with the PPK installed.

Today was the first Limp Mode for me. I have the BT Scan Tool and decided to pull the faults. I've attached what was stored in the DME.

I doubt BMW would do a buy back on a used BMW. Funny thing is I sold my Diesel to get away from the carbon build up issue and now i'm stuck with this issue. See attached for screen shot.

I have yet to see a limp mode on my car. My car is a first year prod 335i (November 2011). Only mods on the car right now are an ER downpipe. I drive aggressive occasionally, but can be easy on it too.

Is the limp mode just a random occurrence?

My build date is 11/12. With those fault codes I pulled I believe the fan is faulting which tells the DME to go into the thermal protection mode (Second fault).

I know when the car does a self check of the fan and doesn't find it plugged in the DME will do the same thing and throw the car into limp mode. I honestly believe this either has to do with faulty fans or the software needs to be updated. The difference between the M-sport and the other 335's is the M-sport fan is an 850Watt fan (upgraded).

My first M-Sport was a 9/12 production in Munich. The second is a 6/13 production from SA. So far so good.

I wish I had the lemon law or buy back option. I purchased the car used for 42,000 dollars less than 40 days ago. Guess I'm out of luck. I did submit a complaint with NHTSA. Hopefully others will submit complaints so it catches BMW's attention.

Had my first limp mode today coming home from work. Lucky me it happened close to home. Fan was crazy loud. Shut the car off for 10 minutes and then started it back up to take the dealer. Everything was good after the restart. Still took it in... Car has about 6k miles. Build date Sep 2013. Interested to see what the dealer comes back with.

hey guys, so is this an issue only for 335 MSport? sorry I didn't go through the 50 pages of this thread. I did read the first 8 or so though. I have a 2013 328i with only 1,000 miles (still break in period) but the temp gauge never goes beyond the first line, even during a 30 minutes drive. Although I haven't driven aggressively yet. sorry to hear that about the 335, they're great cars!

Has anyone with a 2014 msport had any limp mode this far?
