Just looking at my truck I traded in that's what I saw. At 2 years, a dealer offered me $18k for it, and when I traded it at 7 years I got $12k for it. The 2 year offer was way low and I walked but you get the general idea.
I quoted a fully loaded King Rancher Ford F250 in 08 that was a year old and we offered 17,500 because of the gas prices... I bet that truck would go for that now.

I did my quote the end of '07, so gas prices could've had a bit to do with the low price given, but it was also their first offer (the truck was a 2 year old fully loaded F150-FX4 with 20k miles on it).

4x4 trucks do tend to hold their value well after 4 years, but then again they are built to last a long time. It's common for people to pick up a 'work truck' that's 5 years old and keep it forever and just beat it up because they don't die and are fairly cheap to fix.

But I digress...

Run flats wont turn a 3 series into a 5 series not even close. I think someone should have done some more test drives. Listen I am 3 series all the way I wanted a sports car with some luxury, not a luxury car with some sport, so I am on your side.

Maybe any of you guys might have experience on buying and selling cars.

Thank you

Btw the car has about 3300 miles on it now
Not that what I wrote below has anything to do with the OP’s original question. Since the question is more about the financial part of the deal and not about the comparison between the 3 and the 5, but….

I drive 2012 528xi and I considered a 3 series before. Here are a few points:

- way more spacious than the 3 series.
- very quite ride, you would not be able to hear the N20 at all (unlike in the 3 series).
- interior, interior and one more time the upscale interior design and feel, the 3 series IMHO just looks very simple and plain, not elegant simple, but poor simple.
- As far as sportiness goes, no way in the world is 535 underpowered. Ride will feel different than in the smaller car. You’re no longer in a go-kart, but in a luxury, sports cruiser. Go-karts will always feel faster, that does not mean they are. As far as 528xi goes, it’s a very “torquey” engine, gets you from 0-60 in 6.3 seconds, not entirely sure if you can tell the difference between 328xi and 5.7 seconds to 60mph, but maybe you can. I couldn’t.

Good Luck !

You're right sir. My idea is that 5 series can look sporty and have the power as well, although not as fast as 3 series.. but well.. I actually hate the 3 series tail light. Looks old, like it needs a little facelift for the "turn signal glass cap".. and 4 series tail light is different than the 3 series and IMO it looks great/better. Thanks for the response sir, really helpful.

50% maybe? Either way, if you always have to have the newest car, you'd better bring boatloads of cash. $5-$10k a year, easy.

The 328 is a much faster car but its no go kart. its just the 3 series has sports car handling and the 528 is a dog in that department. I even test drove the 550i and was not impressed. The only 5 series I would own would be a M5. I think the 5 series is a great car its just not very sporty more Lexus then BMW.

That's very true...depending on the car. In my experience (I get a new car every 14-16 months), you're better off leasing if that is your situation. If your F30 is leased, swap your lease. If not, try to sell it privately at 15% off what you bought it. You'll still do better than trading it in. GLWS

Well…what makes it a go-kart is not only the 0-60 times, but the size of the car, handling and the 0-60 times.

Yes, the 328xi is faster, exactly 0.6 second faster, in my book that’s not “much faster”. Now with 550xi you’re talking M3 0-60 times.

“(…) more Lexus then BMW” - Yeah, as of late calling a GS the new BMW (and vice versa) has been the name of the game for some car magazines, however I am yet to see a GS doing 0-60 in 4.7s (550xi).

There is nothing wrong with wanting a bigger car but the F30 is not small by any means. It's surprising how roomy it is. I have drove small and big cars the F30 is no go kart.

I think you should take another look at the taillights, back of the F30 and the F10 its pretty hard to tell the difference.Good luck
cheers
