Sanity Check: Please review my plans
First of all, thank you in advance for all the replies!
My car is a 2014 328i xDrive M-Sport. (AW) I do not track my car. After a lot of wheel and tire research, I think I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on a set of OEMconcept 437m black replicas. 8.5" ET35 front and 9.5" ET40 rear. These should look just like the OEM wheels but fit the F30 a little better while still being lightweight and have less poke. For tires I plan on using Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 235/40R19 front and 265/35R19 rear. These are 26.40" and 26.30" tall respectively, compared to my stock 18" 400M 225/45R18 which measure 26". I'm thinking the slightly taller tires will help fill some of the xDrive wheel gap. Depending on how bad the wheel gap is, I'll either immediately or in the coming years lower the car just enough to eliminate most of the gap using either ACS springs or Bilstein coilovers. (more research needed) Not knowing how much gap there will be, am I possibly hurting myself by going with a larger tire? I know that lowering kits have a minimum drop and xDrive options are not always as plentiful. Thanks!

your plan is sounds "spot on", to me
since bmw speedos read slightly high from the factory the slightly taller tires will correct this as well. regarding lowering later...the fronts struts require disassembly just to change the springs and stock strut life is reduced with a springs only drop. i agree with your plan of bilstein, other reasonably priced coilover, or koni yellow or bilstein b8/springs combo as well. |

What do you think about 255/35/19 (26.02" tall) + 265/35/19 (26.30" tall) vs 235/40/19 (26.40" tall) + 265/35/19 (26.30" tall)? Both setups are close enough to work well with xDrive. The 255 front is slightly shorter and would cause more wheel gap, but with a drop provide more of a rake look like the actual M3 setup. I've heard that the rear tires wear faster than front as well, which may help prevent a larger looking front tire over time? The 235 on the other hand is the same height as the rear and should look better with the stock suspension.

So that leaves me with 3 options for an xDrive: 1. 19x8.5" ET35 235/40 + 19x9.5" ET40 265/35 - 26.40" and 26.30" diameter. - Pro: Corrects speedometer. - Pro: Least wheel gap. - Con: Increased understeer. - Con: Possible reverse rake as rears wear out faster than fronts. Has anyone ever noticed a smaller back tire due to wear? 2. 19x8.5" ET35 255/35 + 19x9.5" ET40 265/35 - 26.02" and 26.30" diameter. - Pro: Very close to OEM - Pro: Diameter difference improves as rears wear out faster than fronts. - Pro: Minimizes understeer. - Pro: Slightly larger rear contact. - Pro: Slight rake adds to aggressive look. 3. 19x8.5" ET35 255/35 square - 26.02" diameter. - Pro: OEM size - Pro: square setup for xDrive - Pro: No understeer or oversteer. - Pro: Rotatable front to back in case rears wear out faster. What do you think? Thanks!

personally, i like option 3 for you, especially for x-drives. i would consider 9" instead of 8.5" square with same et if the rim is offered in this size
i don't like option 2 much for x-drive. although my own rwd is set up with a 245/255 stagger. option 1 for aesthetics. i wouldn't sweat the tire wear part if you choose this option. |

Thank you everyone for all the replies here and in other threads. I just ordered a square set of 19x8.5 ET35 437m reps. (They weren't offered in 9") I'll create another thread with the setup and results in a few weeks when the PS4S become available and get mounted. Going to run 255/35/19 square.
