Suggestions for Team Sports for a Yearly Comp
In my previous job we had department / Section team events that formed part of a Yearly Competion (CO's Cup).
The events were quite random at times, not just fiveaside and rugby, also have volleyball, Soapbox car racing, Superstars, Dodgeball etc. I am looking at introducing something like this at work (Team Socialising), however I need to think of 12 relatively random Team events Ideally teams of 5, with prospect of some all girls teams. Some are pretty easy, Rounders / Softball, team bowling, Dodgeball, Any thoughts of some other SENSIBLE team games? A lot of this is aimed towards socialising as well as sporting stuff, although Team Quiz would also count as one of the 12. |

Health and safety means we can't be bothered with the paperwork that goes with sporty team build stuff half the time, and recently have done some cooking team competitions.
I hated the sound of it at first but did quite enjoy it actually I'll admit. One of the companies we used did it with wine tasting, and there were beers too, so most were happy.

They would not sign off on track day but carting is being considered, Mudders are out. I have a reasonable Entertainment allowance for covering this, so yes will be plenty things like visits to breweries, Wine events, and Gin trips (some great Gin bars. The hard bit is working out a fair but decent mix of competition events. |

If you want to try and have mixed sex teams, how about
Basketball/netball. Orienteering / bridge building. It's a Knockout : competitive obstacle course using inflatables doused in water and Fairy Liquid. Hilarious.

How about Crazy Golf, Curry and Karaoke, There's a retro arcade you can hire up your way, treasure hunt (in cars) or everyone learns a craft (loads of working museums offer these)

There is now a decent version of the Crystal Maze that you compete in teams of up to 8 but it is in Manchester, I dont know whether thats a problem? There is also a couple of companies doing inflatable 'fun runs' of 5k or so that are milder than any kind of tough mudder style event.
Other than that my Mrs went on some management team building social 'apprentice' style events. During one session they had been rented a space for a day at a pop up restaurant site and had to sell food in teams including advertising (my mrs got onto a local radio station somehow!), deciding what to cook, buying all the ingredients, then cooking the food and seeing who made the most money to decide a winner. On another event they had been rented time in a local theatre and they had to advertise, sell tickets to and put on a production for 20 minutes and the winner was once again whoever made the most money. All profits went to a charity and the tasks went down well with all involved apparently. Could be an idea... |

I am taking my team for a group shoot in Bisley. The Garrison gym is good otherwise and I have set up a Badminton group. Last Wednesday every month so people can plan around it - open to partners as well. In the past, I have used things like an ‘escape’ room. Some prefer the mystery and breaking out. Other team games? Newspapers to build a chair? Has to be able to withstand a certain weight. Paper bridges with newspapers? Toilet roll? Everyone takes some bog roll. Then writes down what skills they bring to the team. Followed by discussion around team skills. If your team are able to travel then places like Liquid Leisure are like ‘Takeshi’s Castle.’ Last thoughts are some classics. Egg and spoon race. Sack race.

There is a large element of competitive stuff, as points would be awarded for finishing first, 2nd etc.
I can actually see team Jenga Competition working. Knockout event between teams. |

When I worked at a well known bank that was taken over by some Spanish people and made me redundant, we used to have an annual competition.
FHM High Street Honeys Championship The rounds were a straight knockout between two entrants. Excel would generate the ties of the round, you'd get hold of the book when possible and decide who was the winner of the head to head. An X was placed in the box of the winner. The spreadsheet (with a bit of vba) was shared so a results page was generated and the winners would go into the hat for the next round. The may seem repetitive, but repeated until the last two made the final. The hierarchy decided it wasn't a competition they were going to allow the ladies to participate in. No pc brigade or sexism in those days. On reflection, I'm starting to realise why we were made redundant O_o Seriously tho.... Karting Good old paintballing. Shooting range. Orienteering. |

The Crystal Maze is great fun, I've done the one in London but I assume the Manchester one is pretty much the same.
This also looks like a good laugh https://www.themonsteruk.com/ |

I like Chris's idea of naked twister and touch rugby with the all girl team

We also have various social events, this is more of setting up a yearly competition with up to 12 sports / challenges that are team orientated and can be scored with points. Needs to cater for most levels of fitness and above all get people involved. |
