"Ipod or device not compatible" message on screen

2014 328i drive with nav….I just plugged in my iPod touch(3rd generation i think) and it will not play music with the message "iPod(or device) not compatible".

Very strange, any ideas?

I got that message at first with the Y cable, it works just fine with a regular apple cable.

I will definitely try that next - although I'm unsure why the Y cable wouldn't work as well

I ran into the same issue with my 435i. The Y cable from BMW worked fine in my prior '09 335i Coupe but would not work in the 435i. The dealer told me to use the standard Apple USB cable and all works fine now.
