Question Creaking Noise Door Seals

I finally had enough tolerating this, can someone please show

- Teflon tape to buy
- BMW instructions how to do it
- How it looks on your done car

BMW will do it under warranty.

The issue is definitely down to the products used on the car. I used to have it horrendously, but it's gone since I changed my car shampoo from Megiuars NXT to dodo juice born to be mild.

I'd try that before faffing around with tape.

I had the tape fix done under warranty over a year ago and it’s been quiet ever since.

I've never had creaking door seals (at least I haven't noticed), and I have just used Autoglym shampoo and Meguiar's Ultimate Wash and Wax

Its caused by wax-type products; a guy who did some work on mine recently cleaned it and straight away the seals were creaking like hell. Mine is still under warranty, but I can hardly blame BMW for this.

What I have done in the past - and it worked again now, is to oil the top of the door. The felt bit that goes across the top. All 4 doors. Put a reasonable amount on and it cures it.

I used autoglym shampoo for two years with no creaking seals. I didn't know what everyone was complaining about. Until I got the car detailed. Immediately I understood. I think i've just got used to it. Anyway, point being...it's definitely to do with the cleaning product/s used.

In the past I used WD40 PTFE lubricant to good effect along there, though less the felt and more the rubber seal- that's what presses against the inner door frame (which is where the tape is applied), and the creaking is those two surfaces rubbing against each other rather than sliding as the door moves in the aperture.

Ive never used anything else than Dodo juice born to be mild and it still creaked like mad until I got dealer to do tape.

Very strange as I picked this one up new, previous one was a demo with 3K miles and no creaking !

hmm, if BMW acknowledged the issue surely its to do with the seals rather than some poxy shampoo product? I never used anything like this, the creaking just started one day, i have no warranty hence asking for help here

Try what we are suggesting - but just try the felt on the top of the doors first. If that works, its an easy fix. It takes 5 minutes. As suggested, I have used oil, but i would imagine that any lubricant would be Ok.

Will do, just sceptical if it's temporary fix

So I buy this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B001G7VIFC/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1524089627&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=meguiars+ nxt&dpPl=1&dpID=41NwqsWqdsL&ref=plSrch

and then just wash the top seals with this?

Been lots of threads on this and I've said for years its the cleaning products that's causing this, seems people finally acknowledge this.

After getting creaking on a E90 a few years back, I always used BMW own cleaning products since then. Never had any problems since.

One of many thread here on it. If you look at post 127 there is a response from a BMW technician.........

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...1260453&page=6

Or here if you cant be bothered to click the link...................

When you get it sorted, dont keep using the same products that cause the issue in the first place.

You can buy some wax free shampoo from Halfords thats what I now use. I think it's the wax that affects the seals.

I originally bought some fancy seal protecting stuff from Germany and whilst that worked for a coupe of weeks, once it wore off, the creaking came back.

I read somewhere about the felt on the top of the door being the main issue, so thats all I treat now.

Once the creaking goes, it feels like a new car again.

I use Gummi Pfledge stick. Lasts a long time and is effective.

OP - get some of this.

I have the Teflon tape fix from BMW and my door seals still creak depending on the cleaning product I've used. Most recently it creaked like hell after having the car detailed.

That gummi stuff is enough to get rid of the creaking and I normally stick a bit round the seals every other wash.

Lightly Wipe over felt surfaces with a cloth with some 3 in1 oil on it.Takes two minutes and seems to last for about 6 months. Perfect.

I had the same issue and used nothing but autoglym bodywash, though it may have been something to do with the ceramic coating the dealer put on (I know I shouldn't have!!)

I just went with the tape fix, but bought some from Amazon and fitted it myself. very simple and solved the issue straight away. The BMW tape is unbelievably expensive, but you can buy an equivalent from amazon, only issue is its cut from a larger roll so not a perfect razor sharp edge to the tape, but it didn't bother me. Once its on, you never notice it. Its probably been 9-10 months now and no creaking and tape still fine.

I've no idea as I've not used that. From my experience I'd only use BMW cleaning products and then you can be certain you wont have any issues.

I dont think I've ever heard of anyone having issues with BMW products.

I had this issue on my old E91, it was definitely as a result of the seals being cleaned with a silicone based interior cleaner by a valeter. No problems whatsoever for 4 years, then after door frames and seals cleaned with a contaminated cloth every bump resulted in a symphony of squeaks from every door. I cleaned them with alcohol wipes and applied Gummi Pfledge which improved the situation but never fully cured it.
After that experience I don’t let anyone near my F31 with cleaning products now, I only use autoglym shampoo on the body and door seals are wiped with a clean cloth with warm water only!

On my old E90, my problems started after I polished the car one time with Autoglym Super Resin Polish and Autoglym glass polish. Either one or both of them caused a creaking issue after.
