Is this a good deal for MPPK/MPE

I was hoping they would match the prices that BMW of El Cajon, CA have on eBay. MPPK $1250 and MPE $870.

This is what the SA said when I inquired:

"Hi Sam,

Thanks for inquiring.

Generally speaking, we can’t match eBay prices. But here is what we can do for you:

Power kit: $1310.00 and labor is $ 175

Exhaust: We can match that price ($870), but you’ll need 2 chrome exhaust tips ($86.25 each) since it doesn’t come with tips. Total comes to $1042.50, and labor is $350.

Please let me know if you have any question.

Mike"

So what do you guys think? Take it? Recommendations?

That price and labor cost for the MPE is exactly what my dealer quoted me as well.

Nah not yet, but I'll probably get the exhaust from them and just install it with a friend or something

When I bought the MPE a couple of months ago, the tips were included in the price. My local dealer matched the $899 El Cajun price. Also, when I checked Tischer, Tischer also included the chrome tips for free. Dealer charged me one hour for MPE install.

I bought MPPK and MPE together and paid a little over $2500 for both installed. MPE cost $860 (tips included) and MPPK cost $1362. Intallation from my local dealer was $315 for both together. Bought both via eBay from two different dealers. I wrote about my experience here.

Hope that helps.

labor is a bit high. my dealer only charged me like $75 for the mppk installation. the price is good. about the same as when i bought mine. my mpe, on the other hand, is port installed so no idea how much the installation is.

Yeah I agree, install is a bit too expensive. Guess I'll keep shopping around. Thanks!

I'll share my experience in case this helps. I can't speak to MPE, but I got MPPK install on the tune alone for 1 hour of labor. For my dealer, that's $175. Bought the new MPPK from getbmwparts.com. I installed the air box and cowling myself in 15 minutes, which was super easy and I don't know squat about working on cars. My SA said he would have charged me another hour for the cowling + air box install. An hour for the tune install seemed fair to me based on other research, although I've seen it for cheaper. Depends on how many pennies you're trying to pinch.

Yeah, I'm thinking about purchasing the MPPK from El Cajon and getting them installed from my dealer. The MPE is the problem. Labor prices is too expensive for that.

It doesn't seem like my dealer is budging with their prices. I was wondering when you bought from eBay, did you save on tax?

Parts seem reasonable but even a guy who has never touched a muffler could install the MPE. Dunno about the labour on the mppk but my bet is that it's 5 minutes of computer nerd stuff and it downloads while they do other stuff. Not much you can do about that though.

I'm curious if I get a third-party install for the exhaust, if it jeopardizes the warranty.

I did my mpe myself along with many others on the forum. Mind you i have a 328i, but the principle should be the same. There is no reason why they wouldn't honour the warranty as it's such a simplistic job. I would recommend doing it yourself, because it is a very quick job. Unplug one sensor, cut the exhaust at the dimple, unbolt the hangers, remove the rubber part of the hangers and put it on the mpe muffler, bolt hangers back on, tighten clamp, replug the sensor and you're done. No sense blowing more money than you have to, especially when it comes to easy stuff like this. I'm not the kind of guy who does everything myself either. Just the easy stuff.
