Bluetooth streaming

Does BT streaming allow you to change tracks without having to resort to the phone itself?

i believe you can control with the steering wheel, radio buttons or iDrive controller.

On a related note, what is the audio quality like streaming audio via Bluetooth? I was under the impression that Bluetooth technology was a bit limited in its bandwidth. Essentially is there a difference if I use the USB cable in the center console or if I just use Bluetooth to stream from my iPhone?

Lower quality sound through Bluetooth would kind of defeat the purpose of my ZPS package.

i don't think you can tell a difference, unless you have all high quality / large file size music files. if you are in the 128kbps-256kbps range i think BT can stream that file size without a problem.

Interesting. I do have a bunch of 320kpbs mp3s I ripped from remastered hi-fidelity CDs of my favorite artist. Guess I'll be going with the USB interface, as a (very quick) Google search makes it sound as if Bluetooth compresses audio to stream it. If so that would definitely defeat the purpose of the $950 ZPS package.

I had Bluetooth streaming in my late Acura TL and streamed
from spotify. The quality streaming from the Internet and from Bluetooth was 100 times better than satellite radio. Close to CD quality IMHO. But then again, Acura has the ELS sound system which is phenomenal.

MP3 audio is already compressed. I don't think BT compressed it any more, just sends the bits wirelessly. BT should be able to support ~1Mbps.

Excellent, that makes me feel a bit better. Guess I'll be doing some audio quality tests when I get me car.

It's sounds fine and yes you can control playback. Also supports track meta data too.

I stream HQ (256 kps or better) from iPhone and Spotify all the time and they sound great. I think ANYTHING sounds better than Sirius - total garbage, IMHO. Some of the DC HD Radio stations really put out great sound as well. So I gleefully called Sirius and told them bye bye 12 months ago. Total waste of $$$ IMHO. The RNS-510 (VW) will not allow the head unit to control my phone via BT other than volume and play/pause. If plugged into the Media In cable then it's an iPod (although VW's older iPod interface totally blows too). Hopefully the BMW HU will - you wouldn't believe what a PITA it is otherwise.
