I'd have to go with the Lincoln MKS (pains me to say this, like the MKZ much more) since you are paying 45k base for a Taurus. The Acura ISX is pretty much a Honda civic for 30k. I spent a lot of time working on a IS250 and cannot imagine how crappy the base Lexus ES drives. Edit: Back on topic, this is a nice piece on the S4 and its relation to VW's other luxury brands, although Chris Harris is sort of an S4 fanboy.

Um... an S4 made to the config i like is 62,695. The dealership i live near is filled with asshats who only like the cars because they sell em. They will take 1k off and throw in audi care.
The 335i i want is 55,095. That is with DHP, Msport, and all the goodies. The BMW dealership will give me around 2902 off the car. now onto the lease.... If i remember correctly i think I am around 500 with 5k down. The S4 I was around the 700s.... If I was going to lease an S4 by payments I would be comparing the car to an M3 with Nav, Premium, and Competition package. |

Looked at the S4. The following were factors in my decision:
* The A4/S4 is looking very dated now. Compared to the brand new F30, it just feels like you're buying a used car. * Technology. LOVE the various technologies associated with the F30...it's a brilliant car. * Driving Dynamics. The S4 is a very sporty car, and the power is impressive. However, the 328i in Sport is also very sporty but I can switch it to Eco Mode and it's perfect for my commute. It's nice to have both in the same vehicle. * M-Sport Steering Wheel. 'Nuff said.

"Looked at the S4"? For what? Overpriced VWs don't impress me, and, having owned an Audi in the past, I'll never even consider another one.

Canada invoice pricing
335i xdrive premium package msport package S4 Premium sport differential they both have the same invoice price. But the audi dealer only gave me like 4% off MSRP while BMW gave me 7% off MSRP. so i took the bmw. i liked the audi interior more then the f30 tho. |

Really interesting read. Currently deciding between a 2014 335i xdrive m-sport or a 2014 S4 sport diff.
Currently leaning more towards S4 after owning 4 BMWs in a row mainly because I want the AWD for my next car and looks like Audi does a better job of a performance AWD.. has this changed since the F30 LCI with the 340i? Does BMW offer sportier xDrive now? |

The warning of buying the S4 is still the DSG which is big time money to fix. The guys at Audi will tell you the b8.5 S4 DSG is better but only time will tell so budget for DSG fix if you want to keep the car out of warranty. Hint the b9 no longer uses the DSG with only a slight bump in power so you can see Audi knows about the problem in the b8 and b8.5 Second check the paint area in the wheel well to make sure it isn't flaking off. I traded it in for the 440xi so comparing the two in performance they are really similar but the BMW feels lighter and better for spirited cornering but the S4 is a better highway cruiser( quieter ).That doesn't mean the S4 isn't sporty and it doesn't mean the 340/440 isn't a good highway cruiser just that one is better than the other. If you are coming from BMW than you will have to adjust driving style to get the most out of the S4 when cornering. The S4 cornering is as good as the BMW but it doesn't have the same feel but mechanical grip is no worse if driven properly. In my opinion get either the S4 or 340/440 both really nice cars. |

Former B7 S4 owner here. The S4s have always tended to understeer in the corners. Stability is good, but not as agile as its RWD competitors. I'm not sure how the newer S4s handle, but the lease rates are a big giant tell on the type of car you are getting. The residuals aren't as high because the reliability is not that great and the car is not that desirable in resale. Maintenance is expen$ive, not unlike BMWs, but there is a reason for the bad residuals.

Didn't even consider an S4 as they are just too huge now... the F30 is too big, but only just. The Audi is substantially longer than the F30, which still looks nice even going into it's sixth year in my opinion! And although people are starting to say the interior looks dated, I disagree! Audi interiors are a totally different kettle of fish to BMW's, which are simple, functional and logically laid out, with no frills while still managing to be sporty! Having said that, the interior of the new A4 looks very nice!
