I'll give the ASS a try for a couple of weeks. If it is not to my liking, and I think it will be the case as I tend to be quite conservative in these instances, I'll dump it!

I need to bring mine back to the dealership to 'remember last'. ASS is really annoying at 10 sec stops and at traffic lights. Sure I can shift to DS but why should I.

So I took it back a couple weeks after I picked it up & they took care of it - stays off now. They also fixed my hood release - wouldn't open... All's well - enjoying the car. I second what others have said - just reference the service bulletin & tell them to take care of it!! |

I had a f30 loaner, and let me say I found it very annoying, especially driving in New York City. I understand this feature saves very little at the gas pump. If I owned a Bmw with the ASS, I will have it permanently deactivated.

if you wanted fuel efficieny, you should buy a cheaper/more fuel efficient car

I've had my car for over a month and have only turned it off once or twice.
For the most part, it works fine, and when stuck at long traffic lights for 2-3 minutes, you can see where it would be useful. The only time I'll disable it is if I'm in bumper to bumper traffic and the flow of traffic is moving at almost the same interval that the ASS kicks on (IE stop for 3 seconds then go). A few times I've had some weirdness where I've lifted off the brake the second the ASS kicked on and it did a weird stall out dance. Also, to say you should get a cheaper car if you want something fuel efficient is kind of idiotic. The 3 is one of the most efficient cars in the class and is one of the main reasons I went with this car over the Audi (20k miles a year and the delta adds up for a car that can get 30+ on the highway)

Tested it for a day, but since I have a 6 MT, it just got too annoying. Then I read the section of the manual that stated (paraphrasing) "this system will cause additional wear and tear on the vehicles mechanical and electrical systems" or something to that affect and that was all I needed to hear. BMW created a "PUMA" case for me and I never looked back (except for the few times I accidentally turned ASS on...)

First off, I got my F30 before the dealers were willing to do the re-code. In that time, I think I consciously tried it out all of 2 or 3 times (and a few other times, forgot to manually turn it off while starting the car). I hated it.
As soon as the dealers were offering the PuMA for the recode, I made an appointment. I think was the first to do so at my dealer (and I think I was also the one who told my CA about it. He wasn't aware of it). And the beauty is, at 'remember last value' I could, in theory, turn it back on. So no harm, no foul. The one thing I really want to get coded is to nix the warning message. Hate the seat belt beeping (I wear my seat belt, but sometimes it takes me a minute or so to put it on), but even more so, on the parking assist cameras, the damn warning covers up the camera view of front of the car). |

I am giving it an honest shot, the days I really don't want it I just toggle into DS mode. It's more fun that way anyway. It's not as annoying as it was when I first experienced it... starting to get used to it... until that one time when it stalled on me &%@*!! But that has only happened once so far so maybe a fluke.

Note with the TSB, it's much smoother AND a more intelligent ASS, doesn't stall at lights like it used to with varying loads...

Really? Good to know. Now to just figure out a time to leave them with the car.

I drove my X3 for a while with it enabled, but I didn't like the rough starts, so it is now gone. The 'last user mode' update caused my panic alarm feature to stop working. Not that I ever use it, but it is there, so it should work. My dealer updated the car again and all is working now, including ASS remembering the last setting. Works great.

Mine was done before Pickup too. It was done as a courtesy since BMW will not re-imburse the dealer until delivery is taken is how they explained it to me.

I have a manual and the driver basically controls it because it only activates when the clutch is out - that being said its not a very smooth restart. I did drive an automatic and it was definitely obtrusive and not too slick - I would have it reprogrammed if I got the slushbox.

Just got it back from reprogramming at the dealership. It's SOOOOOO much better. I absolutely LOVE my car again. There is not one thing I would change on it now.
Thank you ALL for your help and a little special thanks to BJ for posting the service bulletin which I brought to the dealership who had no clue about it. |
