Smile Headrest height solution

Headrest minimum height of an inch + is done to meet a federal requirement. (too much government). Solution is to lift the plastic cover on the side without the visible release. It is held on at 3 points around the cover. Pop it up with a flat screw driver. Slide it up and a metal release will be visible. Push it in and the headrest may be slid down to seat height. Push the cover back down sealing it in the three places and you are done. Simple fix. Questions jus tend me a message.

You actually have to take out the spring that holds the locking tab. What you're describing is only part of the solution. If you raise the head rest back up in your situation it only locks it back in place. Don't know about you but popping the cover off every time would be insanely annoying.

I posted a DIY in the interior mod section a while back. There is a ton of info in that thread and how to fix the headrest and allow it to be completely removed from the seat.

You guys are awesome! I was unable to find a comfortable seating position in my new X3 because the headrest held my head too far forward. There is no fore and aft adjustment. Long drives resulted in a stiff neck. With your great description I was able to lower the headrest in less than 5 minutes, and that took care of the problem. Thanks!

Headrest not high enough!!

I have the opposite problem. I am 6ft 1in tall and my headrest does not go up high enough so the lower part of the headrest is still touching the bottom of my neck. I would love to know if there is any way to raise the headrest by another inch on my 3 series convertible 2011 model. Any ideas anyone?

Interesting. I'm 6'5 and the headrest fits comfortably.
