So far I have the monthly cost, I will try to get those values tomorrow; I just got the news late this afternoon. The car cost 11% more than my current car, and the lease increase is a bit less than that. So it's a go. 15K mile, 3 year-term. ~$54K retail price. The better gas mileage will save me probably about $40 per month as well.

Its on its way to the port, according to the call-in system, despite the MyBMW inquiry showing it as "in production". Whether it is in Germany or South Africa, and when it will arrive, I have no idea. Perhaps the dealer knows this better. I'm hoping it coordinates well with the turn-in of my red car, which turns into a pumpkin March 3.

Update: German car. 62% residual, as elsewhere. 0.00195 money rate, also as posted elsewhere. At the port, four-week transit expected.
Yay!!! on all counts.... Can't wait for my black-over-red-mobile... |

Car is on Aphrodite Leader, currently in the mid-Atlantic (I assume), though the last track of it located it in the Azores 2 1/2 days ago. Headed for Panama by the 4th of February, and Port Hueneme for the 14th. After BMW distribution center and dealer prep, expecting it around the 20th or 21st for delivery. I need to figure out whether I will pick it up right away or wait until my current lease is up on the 3rd of March. Might have both for a week or two, which will be interesting!
Getting more excited! At least in the meantime, I have a tricked-out, 5-speed manual new Fiat 500 Sport to go have fun with. It's going to soon be my wife's car, but that car is a LOT of fun once lowered with progressive springs, Borla-exhausted, and ECU-modded. Going on an all-Fiat rally today in the San Gabriel mountain canyons. Keeps my car-Jones satisfied until the black beauty shows up. Even then, I'll still drive the Fiat on weekends when I want to go canyon carving! |

The Aphrodite Leader, upon which the black-over-red car is taking its trans-oceanic ride, made it to the Panama (Canal) port of Cristobal. Ten more days until it arrives at Port Hueneme here in SoCal. Excitement building...
Anyone else have a 3er on this ship? |

Stopped by the dealer today, who had gotten in their allotment of the three different new 3ers. The red 335i Sport got my immediate attention, and a salesman, whom I didn't previously know, opened it up and said I should drive it. Sure!
It looked really great, especially the interior, having the black leather, aluminum trim with red finisher in the dash, which looked very good in person. The gauges look more modern than those in my e90, very crisp and bright. The sport seat felt very familiar to me. We started it up and it was very quiet and posh sounding, and when we took off in what was comfort mode, it felt posh, too, but not at all in a bad way. He says "turn on sport mode!", which I did, stepped on it a bit and wham, the engine kicked down instantly and the car shot forward with the eight-speed clicking off gears FAST. It was in a lot of traffic, so I could only do so much, but it felt familiar in its overall feel and quickness and more grown up at the same time. The heads-up display is great, with the focal point further away than I expected. The start/stop worked very well and unobtrusively. Even the foot-operated trunk opening worked great. The trunk did not close with an easy pull like my car does; instead it is a pull down and then a push-down close from the outside to make it happen. Hmmmm. The car had the unstaggered 18 inchers, which looked great, but the nineteen inch staggereds should look even better. The car just wanted to be driven, I think it is less visceral than my 2009 e90 sport 335i, but definitely a move forward in refinement. Only a ten-minute drive, but very impressive. |

Looked at both the Luxury and the Sportline yesterday, and could really feel the difference in the seats. The Luxury seats seem designed for big-bottomed Americans; they are even flatter and less bolstered than ever.
Also looked harder at the "monstrosity" license plate holder, and should mine come with it, I now think I would survive for three reasons: 1) with a license plate frame (which both of these cars had), the bulges on either side were less noticeable, 2) my color is black, which makes such things disappear somewhat, and 3) the actual bulge in person seems less prominent in reality anyway than it does in pics. All that being said, I'd rather just have it naked, as that thing is not a good design. In other news, according to the Port Hueneme Arrival schedule, the arrival of the ship that has my car has been moved up one day to Monday the 13th (next week), which is only two days away! Could have the mo-sheen by Thursday, as my dealer is only 10 miles away from the prep center! |

The black-over-red 335's ship is docked at Port Hueneme here in SoCal as of midnight Sunday, just twelve miles from the dealer. Thursday or Friday is the hope, after a couple of days for prep and transport (a twenty minute trip from the very nearby Oxnard prep center). The excitement builds; it's like a two-month pregnancy, from conception to, well, delivery.

The ship left the Port early this morning, so the car should be either at the prep center or getting there real soon. I called the BMW number, which currently still reports it as "in transit", but its info does have lag, just less than the MyBMW online site does.

Strangely enough, the phone-based status is now "at the port and awaiting a vessel." Interesting, considering it just got to Port Hueneme from Germany and the ship is gone...
The MyBMW site shows it as being in the "Finishing Touches" state. That sounds better. BMW sure gets there info screwed up regarding ordering and delivery. Overall, though, !!!

Knowing that the car is only twenty miles away from where I live, and has been there for 2 1/2 days, and that it isn't yet available to bring home is driving me CRAZY.
Maybe tomorrow???? Maybe Not???? Yikes!!!!!

If I bought my car in Atlanta, should I expect it to arrive at the port in Georgia or does it vary?

It is in the hands of the transporting company that takes it from the preparation and distribution center to the dealer. However, the dealer is only ten miles away from the center.
