G20 won’t be available at all in two months time mate!

2020 M340i  [0.00]
I thought i red earlier new 3 series will be out sometime mid this year.

Perhaps BMW is reviewing their engine line up choices and EV options and what is priority and going to be big seller, given the sudden drop in diesel sales and increased interest on EV cars. This is right time to pause for manufactures and reassess their priorities and market demand.

No point for BMW to invest/refine another 320D no matter how good it is, it wont be as popular choice before, they need something else now, perhaps a 320E of some sort, 3-4 cylinder petrol with electric motor....

At least some of what he told me was correct. However he was hinting that the 340i would have a big power hike over the 335i - that and there was extensive use of CF in the G30...

So whether the M340i will be available from launch, possibly. But the 340d (if that what they are going to call it) most likely won’t be out for up to a year later, based on whats happened in the past.

Note that a G30 540d is still not available in the UK even though you can order one elsewhere (eg Germany, albeit LHD).

Either way if they don't pull their fingers out with the g31 I may have to look else where.

Looks like I might have to look else where.

It is frustrating how long it takes BMW to roll out a complete model range.

I'd be surprised if the will be an M350! Not enough of s gap between a circa. 370bhp M340 and the M3. Maybe a 350d for other markets??
M340i will be same power as new Z4 M40i, 380bhp or more, and will be released Spring 2019 earliest.

Presume you mean f30 won’t be available?

Did hear the G 20 was being unveiled in March at the Paris motor show ??

With orders being taken in the middle of 2018 for delivery towards the year end ?

Hopefully the bigger m340d ( or even M350d ) might be available by mid 2019 when my pcp ends.

This might be regarded as heresy by some here.

But

Mrs has got a 140i and while it sounds nice and meaty to some extent I prefer the torque of a big bi turbo diesel, not to mention the economy.

According to this:

http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/spy-sho...-g20-revealed/

We now know the launchpad for the new 3-series: it will be revealed to the world at the 2018 Paris motor show in October 2018, so there are still a few more months to wait for first official pictures.

Yes I saw that. What confused me was that f30 production/ order taking was stopping in July - presume this year 2018?

Seems a long time to go without their best selling model or am I getting confused

This should put me on track for a G Hearse.

Will definitely need a test drive if it's a 340i xdrive.

Hopefully some new cutting edge tech, that we don't really need but is fun to play with.

No bloody touch screens !!!!!!!!!!

Fairly usual stuff, until I got to the end.........

I think this is very interesting.........
Pretty sure BMW has already confirmed that the next gen M3/4 will have a selective AWD system just like the new M5 has. And as a current F80 ZCP owner as well, we know it needs it. Being a huge fan of RWD cars despite living in Pittsburgh and driving it year round, I never thought I'd say that. But the reality is the torque numbers these cars are achieving today makes traction a big issue even in dry warm weather. Especially since BMW seems to have something against rear tires that are wider than a 285. Our cars should be running a 285 in the front with at least a 305 on the back. Would help tremendously to get the car to turn in better at the limit and put the power down more effectively.

Up until 2 weeks ago I'd agree with you with regards traction issues. But I've recently fitted Michelin PS4S tyres and the grip has improved significantly. Driving around at -4 deg C with cold tyres and the grip is unreal compared to before. Very impressed with them for grip.
