Wing Mirror
Hi all.
I just got my first (used) BMW 2 weeks ago and I'm really happy with it Last week someone hit or forced my wing mirror and now it's loose and shakes when you touch it and while driving. I did google to see if there was a way of tighten it up again but opening the cap on the bottom I can't see any screws to tighten. I haven't forced it much as I don't want it to be completely loose My questions are: - Is it just out of some socket that can be "forced back into place. - Is something broken and needs a complete new mirror assembly. - If broken do you recommend any temporary fix. I've attached two pictures, not the best but I can take some more if you think it will help. Thank you all for your help in advance. |

Do you have motorized folding mirrors? If so, does the folding function still work?
I'd take the whole thing apart and inspect it inside and out to see if there is any apparent damage. This requires popping the glass mirror out and removing the mirror cap. There are a number of screws holding things together inside.

Thank jh_f30,
The mirrors fold manually I think I'll have to try to disassemble it like you said, I'm just scared of braking the mirror itself. I'll try give it a shot this weekend. Also I was trying to see prices in case I need to replace it but not a lot of offer on ebay, is there any other place you know where I can source the part. By the way I'm in the UK |

If there is damage, the non-motorized housing will be cheaper to replace. Use www.realoem.com to find the exact part number you need and then do a Google search for that part number. I had my left wing mirror hit by a driver who got too close. Shattered the mirror and I ended up getting the whole thing replaced through his insurance. Having auto-folding and auto-dimming mirrors, the total repair cost charged to his insurance came to $1100USD parts and labor for the one side. However, that was for brand new OEM parts. Depending on the options you have, it could be substantially less expensive, particularly if you do it yourself.
