ID4 to id5/6?
Afternoon All
A friend has just bought an F30 jan 2017, from the looks of the interface he has ID4, Can ID4 on this hardware be upgraded to ID5/6?, do NBT EVO ID4 have the 2gb of ram or do they run 4gb like the NBT evo 5/6? Cheers |

In January 2017 there was actually no longer an ID4. There was only ID5 (later ID6).
Unless the car was built much earlier. The ID4 was available with 2GB RAM, but also some models with 4GB RAM (I would have to do some research how to find out). You can flash an ID4 to ID5 / 6. It works better with 4GB RAM. Crashes are common with 2GB of RAM. |

Hmm, i ran a report on the VIN from Bimmerwork and it says the production date is 2017/1/18 and the screen is definitely ID4 as it has no tiles like ID5/6. Ill have to pull the HU when he collects it and look at the P/N

just coming back to this, pulled the HU after reading you can check HW versions on the label(attached) now the only thing i can see is HW 004.003.003?
Most places say it should have a serial number and a HW version of 4.3. Any insight would be appreaciated. Cheers |

I think we all thought you or your friend has a Navi Professional Evo. But your picture shows a Navi Business (Headunit Basic Navigation). If there is anything like ID5 / ID6 at Navi Business, I don't know if you can flash it. |

Agree with above, also thought he had professional. Within business nav id4 does not exist, see also below
https://www.bimmer-tech.net/blog/ite...bmw-navigation Types of Head Units When it comes to head units in general, they can be divided into 3 categories: - BMW Live Cockpit Professional (the newest MGU head unit with ID7 interface) - Navigation System Professional (CCC, CIC, NBT, NBT EVO ID4/ID5/ID6) - Navigation / Navigation Plus / Business Navigation (MASK, CHAMP, CHAMP2, CIC-MID, ENTRY, ENTRYNAV, ENTRYNAV EVO) Entrynav evo is equiped with carplay but is only available from cars man from 03-2017 So your question would be, can i upgrade entrynav to entrynav evo. Yes but You need to replace all hardware, no software upgrade possible I would buy a mmi Last edited by Laurens0619; 10-17-2020 at 04:30 AM.. |

How to know which one do I have? Is there written 4GB/2GB somewhere on the unit?

I think I read that somewhere and somewhen. But I can't find the thread anymore and have never read about it again. In any case, you will not find the specification of the 2 or 4GB on the device. I only recently read that software 18-03 should still be the most stable if you want to flash from ID4 to ID5 / 6. https://cartechnology.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=79458 |

Best solution is to buy a used ID5 unit, flash to 18-03 firmware and activate to your VIN, install and forget - it will work flawlessly. |
