Adaptive Headlights 2 Different Color Temps
Like the title says, I have the Adaptive LED Headlights and the inside lights are more of a blue "6000k" temp while the outside lights are a whiter "4300K" temp. Does anyone else's have the same color difference? Is it something I can change with coding? I personally prefer the blue tint. It's even more awkward since it is also offset by the dull looking icon halo DRL, but i'm pretty sure that can be fixed with coding. I just haven't done it yet.
I tried to take a picture but my cell phone makes to many automatic adjustments an accurate representation of lights properly. |

So your are saying the halos are a different color than the projectors?
I've never noticed this.

Yes, the halos are a dull white. I have read that you can change this with coding, because the halos actually dim when the headlights are turned on. They are brighter when the headlights are off, and the coding should make them stay at 100% brightness when the headlights turn on so they will *hopefully* match the color.
i'm more concerned about the actual light though. Like if you reference this image, on my car the light on the left is more of a neutral white while the light on the right has a blue tint.

I thought i'd try to take pictures again in the daylight, and it's easier to see the actual color of the LEDs with the ambient lighting outside. It's still not as obvious in pictures as it is in person, especially at night. Anyway, if anyone can confirm (or deny) that this is normal i'd appreciate it. Like I said, it's like running one light with a 4300k bulb and the other with a 6000k, so very noticeable.

Not so much, but both lights are aimed at the same direction so I wouldn't expect to.
And like I said, the difference is very apparent in person. I just tried my best to capture it in photos. Also it's not just apparent when looking into the housing so it's not the angle. If you stand over the light and look down, you can see the light's reflection on the lens and you can see the color difference. I have another idea to take pictures tonight that may show it better by separating the lights with cardboard or something. |

I tried taking more pics by holding up a white piece of paper in front of the lights, but pics just don't come out the way it actually appears. You can definitely tell that the beam from the inside light is a different color than the beam from the outside light.

You'll notice when the DRL's are set to full at night they wash out with the headlights.

You can definitely code for brightness, but it won't affect the colour of the lightoutput from LEDs.
It's not like with Halogens where if you apply more voltage they get hotter, giving a whiter and brighter light. LEDs get brighter with pulse width modulation (On more/longer times per second) but their colour temperature stays the same. Your car is not a lemon just because the lights are slightly different colours. Head to your dealer and see if they have another car with adaptive LEDs and see if its the same. |

And I never said my car was a lemon. I'm just asking if it's normal or if anyone else with adaptive lights see the same thing. I've had the car for 2 months so I don't plan on going to the dealership any time soon, but if it is an issue then i'll bring it up at my first service next year. So it's easier to do some investigation from my couch. I just wish at least one person responding could answer main question I asked. |

Yeah, if I can confirm it's an issue I'll go that route next year. I just don't think it warrants a separate visit.

Not harping on you, just addressing the other comment to check your state's lemon laws...
Just looks like it's simply that the colour temp of the LED DRLs (halos) is different than that of the headlights. You might just be the first to notice / get bugged by it. Might just have to live with it |

Thanks, but it's more than the halos. The lights in each reflector are different. If I have to live with it, it's not the end of the world. But I haven't seen it in any other pictures and would like to have it replaced with matching ones for my OCD.

It's probably the difference of the straight reflector in the main light vs the light pipe in the halo (not an actual color temp difference).
Really, the only time you would notice that is when someone jacks your car and is about to mow you down. Get behind the steering wheel, drive it like you stole it, and it becomes a non-issue. |

From the pic I wouldn't notice unless you pointed it out but I'm sure it's more prominent in person. You're not crazy Since we apparently have the same vision, I was going to compare mine but I have the standard LEDs (non adaptive). Didn't realize adaptive came with a more angular shape than the LEDs I have..my design's a bit more round..I like yours more. Anyways if it were me, I would eventually compare to another car to confirm a defect or if it is by design..it would bother me after a while. |

Since both sides are the same color, I would say it's "by design". The outers are for high beams, so they probably have different intensities.
I'm still not sure why it matters though. OCD, sure. I get that. But it's not like you stare at your headlights. |

And I assumed that the outer beams might have a different function, but according to BMW both lights have the same function so it just doubles the light output. Only the halogens have different functions for the inner and the outer lights. http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1125534 i'm actually going to the dealer for separate issue this weekend, so i'll check other cars they have. i know it's a little issue but every time i walk up to my car and unlock it, i see the lights. it irks the crap out of me. what's really funny is i have a clear bra that only covers half the hood, but the line hasn't bothered me a bit. and that's if i ever notice it that's just how my brain works. |
