I believe ECE means worldwide market, covering Europe, canada, Australia, mexico, most of South America, Africa and middle/far east. Some regions such as USA, India, Brazil, Thailand, Egypt & China have their own regional variants of BMW models.

Correct.

Note your headlights has ECE logo on the sticker.

It is not ROW.

I don't believe it's done that way for cars sold in France or other Countries.

For example, if that were true, BMW would not use ATT in USA and Rogers in Canada, but just use ATT for all of North America.

And there is a news release I found from several years ago about Deutsche Telekom supplying Mobil Data to BMW in a number of Countries.

Vodafone.

Explains why the updates are so slow over the air...connecting to your home wifi while parked up and doing it all automatically and seeing your car hard drive as a shared drive on your network - if only that was possible we would never need vodacrap for much!

TBH it doesn't really matter, it's all seamless my connected drive works when I drive in mainland Europe that's all that matters.

Again, so does a USA BMW that drives to Canada and vice-versa.

However, one needs a SIM designated for local Country Provider as BMW would not foot the bill for 100% roaming on Connected Drive Services.

We don't get charged for using connected drive in mainland Europe when we drive there from the UK, so it appears they do....but again who cares!

Nice use of the word "one" is this an episode of The Crown?

It does matter.

Trying to compile a list for all Countries.

Just because you occasionally roam for free in other Counties in your BMW, that does not mean that a Commercial Account (BMW) operates the same way.

I highly doubt the build cars with different SIMs, just buy the service from a VNO(virtual network operator) with global agreements. Plenty of those around.

My car was sold in the UK and I exported it 18 months ago, ConnectedDrive works just fine.

Exported where?

BMW has ATMs with different part numbers for USA, ECE, ROW, RUS and CHN. Perhaps more. As cars are Country Coded, programming the ATM to that Country really isn't that big of a deal.

Exported from the UK to Cyprus. Both in the EU. Maybe it would have been different if it had been exported to say Australia

Yes, because Cyprus (#7) is roam free with Vodafone UK.

Australia isn't roam free.
