Clear Coat Damage - Maybe from Sap?

Today I noticed some pretty major damage on a most of the hood area of my car. It looks like it ate through the clear coat, and in some parts, maybe the paint.

I'm wondering if anyone knows the cause, and how I can fix it. I'm thinking I'll have to sand down the clear coat (looks like it kind of bubbled up), and then re-apply clear coat to those areas.

Maybe try some goo gone first--I have used that on sap and it took it off. And then try to polish with a DA polisher and some Meguier's M105. This would be the most un-invasive approach.

Rubbing Alcohol might do the trick, make sure you use a clean micro fiber towel.

you won't fix that, with anything other than a repaint.

Might be from a massive bird shit. Try a good paint cleaner - Mothers etc... And then maybe a scratch Remover - Mothers again. Then a detailer....

Sorry this happened....

those big blobs are from bird poop, etched through the paintwork, here's what you can do that may remedy the problem:

I'd be more inclined to say tree sap, the patterns are too regular for bird crap. Probably pine, that is the source that turpentine is made from. It may rub out, if not a clear coat re-spray would have to be done. After you get it fixed apply a protective sealant. I use Menzerna Power Lock, it's almost like coating the car with teflon.

It doesn't look like there's any residue leftover. The clear coat has been eaten through and it has a bubbly sort of look.

I think I'll try and sand the bubbly parts out that got damaged, and then reapply clear coat on top, and then try and buff it out as a first step.

Hopefully you can buff it out using a good polish like Menzerna M105 and a buffer. Give it a good clean with soap and a microfiber towel. Then move on to a clay bar and see if that helps. Then buff with polish (M105 then M205 would be my choice) and hope for the best.

Worse case get it wet sanded and buffed. I don' think you would need to sand off the clear coat and re apply clear. I would think wet sand would clean it up.

Good luck! Start slow and work up to more intense measures.

In the damaged areas, the clear coat is partially eaten through in a bubbly fashion, which is why it looks white from afar. This is why I'm thinking I would have to sand the clear coat in the damaged portions.

Hopefully a wet sand and a polish takes care of it? I personally haven't tried wet sanding my own car. I polish my cars with my random orbital buffer but wet sanding looks like there is chance of doing real damage if you don't know what you are doing. Lots of how to video's on youtube but if it was me I would try a professional detail shop and see what they can do.
