Talking OT: Car badging. The good, the bad, the ugly

It occurred to me, whilst lying in bed and waiting for Mrs NTG to bring my breakfast, that there is a protocol applying to badges / decals / stickers / transfers to ones vehicle.

So, in no particularly order, this is where I stand, with BMW -

A badge to make your car look something it is not. M3 badge on a 320i is not acceptable.

A badge to make your car look something it is not. A 320i badge on an M3 is acceptable.

An 'M' badge on a non M car. Exception is M135i, for obvious reasons.

Club badges, for clubs you are not a member of. Buying a BARC badge on eBay and applying it to your car, is not acceptable.

Club (or destination) badges for places you have been or membership, is acceptable, but may be at the margins of taste. National Trust badges would therefore not be acceptable. A Good wood badge from last years revival, that you attended, would be acceptable.

A definate no, no is using a badge, or brand from another manufacturer. AMG M power would therefore be totally unacceptable.

What have I missed?

Nurburgring stickers - never ever remotely acceptable.

Removing or blacking out main manufacturer emblem

3 stripe M decals on front grille - tantamount to an M badge on the back, but tackier

I just detest people putting badges on cars that are not spec.

This ranges from M badges, Msport Badges to chavtastic halfords stuff.

A Saturday drive around Wolves will give every example known to man and then some..

Agree except for putting badges in your to make them look like somethings they're not, even if it's something lesser. It's disingenuous and that should not be encouraged in society in any way. Plus, it's very contrived and snacks of trying too hard.

above definitely but also the 'gold' treatment of manufacturers badges, Lexus springs to mind. It would be so crass nowadays.

Clean look is always best but a ring sticker as long as its just the outline no text is fine. IMO saying that havent stuck mine on yet since my last visit

A ring sticker on a car may be acceptable on a car, but only if this particular car has actually been driven round the track!

I would be very, very wary about putting a 'ring' sticker on the back of your car Terry.

That and a set of pointy shoes and we may never hear from you again until.....

You reappear as the centre spread in 'Bondage and Humiliation' monthly magazine.....

All badges on cars are bad.

A well integrated manufacturer badge is the most I will accept.

Never felt the need myself, but if someone does then that would be my feelings on it.
