Could I tow an E92 with a F31?
Done some searching and seems like it might work but before I do something I might not be able to recover from I wanted to ask in here;
Am I dreaming or can I use the 328i for towing a car? https://www.schmiedmann.com/en/bmw-f...-mpg14-catn-ol This is an example of what could work for me/us here in the U.S. Thoughts, comments, ideas are all welcome. Ricardo

Yes. Your 328i has a towing capacity of 1600kg.
The E92 weighs in around 1650kg. My advice would be to shed whatever you can in terms of weight in the E92 i.e. no junk in the trunk. The link did not work for me (possibly as I am in the UK) but if it was a trailer then you need to factor that weight in for the trailer. A remap may help the situation. That could give you 84nm (62 lb ft) more. Should help to reduce some lag and help you to get going. |

How far do you want to tow it? Your profile shows Norfolk, VA. I would give a different answer if you wanted to tow to Richmond VA vs. Richmond CA.

Norfolk, to Alton VA (VIR track), 200 miles one way, pretty flat drive.

Not sure how you intend to tow it but personally I would not do it with your car. Uhaul etc will not rent you a car trailer to be pulled by your car. Also looks like your car is lowered? What do you expect to happen when you drop weight on the hitch?
Tongue weight - too light = the load is unstable & will sway. To heavy = Steering issues/rear tire rub. I have both a Ranger 4X4 & an Expedition 4X4 & don't ever use the Ranger. FWIW the car only weighs 2250lbs. VIR is 1.5 hours for me.

I would rent a U-haul (or similar) truck and trailer before trying what you suggest. Not that expensive and MUCH safer.

Since the drivetrain seem to be really weak on theses car I would avoid it. If you car is out of warranty you could try It at your own risk. For the towing side the maximum in Europe is 1600kg for which you need a trailer brake controler. I don't think you would be able to get that low including the trailer weight.

The Expedition EL V8 @ 300+HP is 3 tons with a trailer package & has a 9,000lbs tow max weight. You don't even feel the trailer at interstate speeds.

OP this was written for a different specification but is worth a read:
https://www.pfjones.co.uk/blog/2012/...-capabilities/ Ps. Any reason you are not driving the E92? |

I wouldn't... towing weight seems very close to the limit.

Hope this is a joke?
I tow a fair amount and have definitely pushed the limits.... But the f31 would suck to tow with. Are you on springs? Whatever you're running, the rear suspension will be overworked.. def not take it on interstate.. you'll get a big ass ticket.

Another option is to drive the car to the event, but have an AAA (or similar) account to get the car back home if the unspeakable happens.

At the end of the day it's better to use something else.... using your F31 will just stress you out If it was half the weight i'd say go for it, but you'll just maxed out w/ trailer. -prob need to install a brake controller.. -wear and tear -potential liability issues with any accident -200 mile white knuckle drive (been there too many times, i loaded the trailer incorrectly or had to brake fast and didn't realize the weight behind me.... it wakes you up real quick and it's just not worth it)
