As a rule of thumb I don't like cars that are symmetrical front to back. Eg the Citroen xara Picasso and the TT.
The new TT however has improved dramatically and I would consider one for the wife. That is if she actually used her car more than once a fortnight. |

I would expect a lot of Audi bashing on here. I've had 2 newish audis in the past couple of years and I think they are good cars, everything feels really solidly screwed together on them, but you would expect that from a premium german car.
Whilst the TT will always have the hairdresser tag on it I think the very latest one looks great, the styling has improved immeasurably. |

I've had 2 Mk 1's and a Mk 3 TT's and the only negative for me was the lack of space inside and as for it being a Hairdressers car I wonder how many people who say that have actually drove one. My remapped Mk1 225 (an 1800 cc engine) left a few 330i and 328i E46 drivers with red faces

Like a lot of similar cars, fun, when driving, nice place to be, you just have that odd feeling as you walk up to it. I had the same for the first few weeks when i had an a4 cab. I knew it was a hair dressers car, but so what, i enjoyed it.
Same goes for slk, etc.

Quite like the looks of them. Interior is definitely a nice place to be. When I see pictures of the interior I have thoughts it's a bit bland/empty however when I think back to when I sat in it I remember it being more than okay. Quality is really good inside too.
Haven't driven one so can't say on the drivetrain but I'd imagine with a decent powered engine and that small size/lowdown stance it'd be nice to drive. Definitely has a bit of a feminine aura to it. Possibly due to the older models being a bit more feminine looking? I have a question though. What makes the TT feminine but a Cayman not? Are they not classed as similar cars, albeit the Porsche from a higher price range? Or.....? |

This rant is not aimed at you Asif. Why does every discussion about a car have to boil down to how fast it goes or how it handles, like in this thread? 99% of these cars just get driven on very busy public roads. Other things like interior quality, mpg, dealer network are far more relevant. People are like sheep and like to bash certain cars/brands if its fashionable to do so. Quite sad really. |

If you like them (and why not, it looks like a nice place to be), then why not go check one out for yourself? They seem like good cars to me. Posting on a BMW forum is only going to get useless replies (on the whole).

The TT certainly has a girlie image but setting that aside I think the latest one isn't a bad looking car and by all accounts they're better to drive than the earlier versions. The fact they weigh a fair bit less than some other coupes is definitely a plus in my book and ought to help the driving dynamics; can't say one would be top of my list but being honest I wouldn't dismiss it either....

Was discussing this with the missus only last night as we were driving behind a new one, twin exhaust (so assuming one of their bigger diesel or petrol engines?). I've reconsidered my position on them since the first TT. They originally felt a bit too design led, style over substance. But we did agree that it would make a good weekend car, and I personally wouldn't be ashamed, happy to accept the banter!
I've driven a mkII (my business partner's - a lady, FYI), 2.0d (184PS) Quattro and had it for a couple of weekends when she's wanted to swap for my Galaxy when she's needed the more room. Having had the previous version of that engine in my old Scirocco, I know how great it was, but coupled with the Quattro it definitely feels quicker and you have so much confidence in the corners: it just grips and grips. Almost made me reconsider my S/X Drive choice. (But my thoughts being, with my first BMW, and with a 6-pot engine - albeit diesel - it has to be RWD!) My view on the mkIII originally was that it looked too bland, but possibly because it looked more like an LCI than a whole new model (in line with other replacement Audi models), but I'm warming to it though: it is still a handsome car, and slightly more muscular than the mkII. Only gripe would be the crashy suspension. Bearable for a weekend blast, but not sure about living with with permanently. Would definitely need adaptive dampers on it.

not a bad drive .. nice interior.
TT RS might be interesting. I still struggle with the image though. They really conned everyone with the new model - the back seats and hatch are exactly the same as the old model so although the super sport seats are nice, they back seats are just plain ! what a con. My local audi dealer told me Audi was way too ambitious and they cant sell them anywhere near rrp hence the big deposit contributions. When I drove the RS3 he said they had had to pre reg a few TT's to hit their target. I don't like the virtual cockpit tbh I think it will date very quickly. HUD is much better with BMW prof nav. All in all, not a bad steer, overpriced though and suits a sexy girl but not a manly bloke ! Just look at the used prices now.. they are tanking because they were overpriced new.
