As an aside, my copy of Assetto Corsa arrived for my PS4 today and have pretty much been on it all night

Initially impressions: Its very good although I would not say its as good as Project Cars. The visuals aren't as nice, not as many different cars, only a handful of tracks (although it has all the important ones; Brands, Silverstone, Monza/old Monza and several Ring iterations).

The car dynamics are very good and tied with my T300RS wheel and chair, very convincing. Again, I dont think they are quite as good as Project Cars. The wheel set up is quite poor too. It only gives you two button option schemes as opposed to allowing a full remap. Driving views are ok (I tend to drive from real drivers PoV) but it doesnt have the awesomely immersive helmet view that ProCars has). Feedback is very good though. My wrists, arms and shoulders are aching!

The AI is a bit weird. If driving anything other than open wheelers, its very good but as soon as you jump in to a single seat open wheeler, they seem to turn in to tards or a race full of Maldinardos.

Good points: Despite a lack of cars, the ones they have are excellent. Spent a lot of time driving a 1975 Ferrari 312T and a Alfa 155 Touring car Will jump in to last years Ferrari SF15-T tomorrow night.
Track detail is very nice.
Simple nav menus and they look quite nice.
Lots and lots of set up options - didnt really bother this evening but they will suit the most hardcore driver who wants to fiddle with everything.

Bad points: Seems a bit buggy. Game crashed twice this evening (latest update) and it seemed to blow the fuse twice in my wheel?
Limited cars (but good ones)
Dynamics are ok but not better than Project Cars
Sounds are ok too but not awesome as some reviews suggest (running the sound through a 7.1 Samsung home cinema)
Car and cockpit visuals are ok. I would suggest they are not much better than games that have been out a couple of years.

Overall its actually a very good sim but it appears like its been rushed on to sale. Doesnt seem to be very polished and Project Cars seems to have the edge. You have to spend quite a bit of time actually learning each car characteristics in ProCars but Assetto seems to be a bit of a 'jump in and drive'. For example, jumping straight in to the 312T on default settings (TCS off, manual, ABS off), I was able to get decent lap times after one lap. No spins or crashes. Tried the same in a similar era Lotus in ProCars and it tries to kill you for the first 40 laps! Very rewarding when you manage to keep it the same direction for one lap

They are both aimed at the sim market as opposed to driving 'game' which suits me. I will stick Project Cars and this one on tomorrow night and do a more objective comparison.
See now that surprises me. I think the other way that project cars is buggy and the cars don't require any tuning where as on assetto I literally have hundreds of setups. I like the tyre modelling of assetto aswell. But it could be just what you get use to i occasionally put pcars back in.

Like I said add me we can get an f30 race meet going 😂

I only have pcars on ps4 assetto is on my pc. But of enough people get it then I'll buy it again 😁

Smee, I think they both offer very similar things but it can be subjective. Spent the evening back on ProCars tonight and I think I can conclusively say that Assetto was the cause of two blown fuses in my wheel set up. Will have to google to see if anyone else has the same issue. Tis a shame as I want to give Assetto a good run. Love the cars I've driven on it so far - Alfa 155 BTC, 312T, BMW E92 M3 (waiting for download content for the M4 - time to update and download; 9 hours!)

Whilst playing PCars tonight, it appears that Assetto almost seems like a slightly cut down version of the former. Maybe the PC version gives a bit more?

Are you playing both on wheels?

Re online play. Unfortunately, my internet connection is only about 1.5-2.0 mbps so any form of online play is nigh on impossible.

I will give it a shot over the weekend to see if it is at all playable though!

Ok, just ordered some games:

The last of us
GTA 5
Journey
No man's sky

The last 2 are ones the wife wants to try.

Going to wait till we've re-decorated the spare room first before buying the driving games and associated kit.

Nice choice for 1&2 at least - never played the others

You have to give the Last of Us some time, master the controls and wow its utterly amazing. The first opening scene is the most captivated I've even been with a game or film that matter. Story just gets better and better as characters develop and change.

The wife wants intelligent RPG games that don't revolve round shooting and killing. She's done some research and these came up.

Whereas I'm happy with the usual killing and driving fast stuff!

Infact I am just hoping naughty dog are working on number 2. The add on's are good as well.

I just bought an Xbox one s for 4K blurray purposes. OMG the revenant on ultra HD premium set in HDR - incredible. I must say Forza horizon is very impressive. I have downloaded Gears of war 4 - looking forward to having a go with that - with a 11.5 month old son it might be 2018!

WTF sony are doing with the Pro and lack of 4k blurray support - just bizarre.
The XB S offers great value with the 4K blueray, none of us in the industry can understand what Sony are doing not having it in the PS4.

Perhaps because DVD's are dead?

Looks like even the consoles are soon to be dead, with Sony launching PS NOW, you don't even need a console, just a SMART TV and a decent internet connection.

I've read the reviews but the wife wants to have a go. For less than £20 I couldn't care!

Just got round to setting up the new games room and pissed off that the PS4 doesn't play CDs! What a moronic decision from Sony. :

I'd have thought the answer to that was completely obvious.

Regardless, it's besides the point. It clearly has all the hardware required to do so, yet it can't, which can only be because of a decision Sony have made to be wilfully not focussed on what might be wanted and needed by customers, at minimal cost or impact to themselves.

It's up there with Apple removing the headphone jack on the iphone 7.

I totally get why lots of new cars don't or won't come with CD players, as pretty much everyone has a bluetooth connection now and smart phone, and CDs aren't very handy in the car. But in a house, where the playstation is connected to a old amp and speakers, the option to put on a CD if just sitting in that room to read would have been perfectly normal.

If it's just a games console then why have it able to play DVDs and blu-ray movies? All it's missing is a tiny bit of software!

And whether you want to play cds is totally irrelevant. I've no interest in spotify, but am happy that you have that option.
